Ole Miss was pure class to my daughter.

My daughter went to college night where high school kids talk with different schools. My daughter wants to go to Troy, but Ole Miss invited her over to talk and they really had a one on one personal conversation. Also, they said they may have a scholarship where they will cover the cost if she will teach for 5 years in Mississippi. I wanted to post here because I was amazed at how positive an experience it was.
Auburn was rude.

Boyce the Chancellor has really brought the University a long way. Before him they were awful at student recruitment. Glad you had a good experience. Take a visit. Oxford is awesome.

Ole Miss admits everyone but is also giving away a lot of scholarships to Louisiana kids.

Is this through Title I? Some of those schools are rough. Also, requires them to teach a state tested subject area which is more stressful. Finally, PERS has moved to 35 years for retirement for new teachers. None of these things make the money upfront a longterm win.
She can attend William Carey in MS where I work, has a higher rated Education program, and save nearly $60k over the four years.

I graduated from Auburn in 2000. BSBA in Accounting. I had season tickets for the 2004 season. 50 yard line, row 2 on the home side. I couldn't see shite. That's how you know I aint lying. I love Auburn. I also love Troy and graduated from there in 2011.

Why be rude...Universities need students. Not at all stating you or your daughter are at fault at all..just insane.

I'll be honest about it. My daughter talked with Auburn and as you probably know, Auburn is difficult to get into. The recruiter advised her not to apply. My daughter does not have perfect scores or a perfect GPA. She's also going to be a Kindergarten teacher and not cure cancer or build rockets. So, I get it, She's probably not qualified to attend Auburn, but Auburn didn't sugar coat it.

That's not being rude, it's being honest. Auburn is not easy to get into. I was graduated from the School of Engineering in '91. With my academic record then, I wouldn’t be accepted into Auburn at all today. I did have fun in high school though.

HS in the 80s? Yeah you probably did have fun because you actually socialized with real people instead of screens. These young folk don't know what they are missing.

I loved it but it was such a different age. Not necessarily easier than today but the challenges were different.
I hope your girl finds her college home and loves the hell out of it. A great education can be found anywhere the student works to find it.

If your child has this she would be awarded a merit scholarship at WCU of greater than 50% off of full tuition costs. Her cost of schooling, housing, and full meal plans would be under $10k/year. She would come out nearly $100k better and earn the same degree.
If she does choose Mississippi, I have a couple of former students in the cohorts in this program. Dr. Rock is the best of the best. But, in the field of education, having debt is just ridiculous. Unless money is not a mtter for your family, she will not earn a job easier going to UM over WCU.

You'd be surprised. I did CRM and DBA work for UCA for a while and worked closely with their admissions guys. If you've been there 25 years and it wasn't what you wanted your life to be and you feel stuck, it's pretty hard to get up for recruiting.
