Ole Miss is wild to see.
I expected Florida to be Top 5 honestly with all of the recruits in their state.
South Carolina hits SC/NC/Georgia hard so it makes sense.

They should only count out of staters. For example in tx a recruit can be many miles away but its in state and will distort distances (if out of state distance is whats being measured).

822 for Ole Miss is insane

Tennessee always has the reputation of having to go ridiculously far distances to fill their rosters. Surprised to see them staying so close to home.

Looks like half their recruits are from south Florida.

Does this include transfers?

They should do a pre-NIL comparison

Does this include kickers from Australia b/c that might skew the numbers

SC is the smallest southern state so of course with all their in state recruits the average distance is going to be the smallest.

The bulk of Tennessee's roster comes from 2 states. Tennessee & Georgia.
The Carolinas, Alabama & Mississippi are what I would consider the secondary states with a heavy focus on North Carolina.
The Mid Atlantic is likely our tertiary region and then a small sprinkling of guys from all over.

Half of our recruits are OOS this year.. 11 of 21
About 40% of the last 3 classes have been OOS.

Yes, NC has been good to us for many years.

In years past, I seem to remember a not insignificant number of kids from California and Jersey.

We definitely did at one point. Fulmer and Kiffin put more of an emphasis on national recruiting then the coaches that followed them if I remember correctly.
Now that Tennessee has been pumping out more talent the last 10~ years we've been able to recruit more from our region. The Southeast and in particular the states that we border are where the bulk of our roster comes from now.
Guessing here, but I'd say that our roster breakdown looks something like:
The SouthEast ( specifically TN, GA, NC, AL, SC, MS) with a couple guys from FL, TX, & LA.
Big gap
The Mid Atlantic (VA, MD, NJ, etc.)
Big gap
Guys sprinkled in from all over.
I'm actually curious what our roster breakdown is by state now. I watched a podcast episode recently where they mentioned the clear 2 by a substantial margin are TN & GA. I'll see if I can get Chatgpt or another engine to crunch the numbers and actually break it down by state.

Someone put some effort into compiling this list though the graphic doesn't specify which recruiting class but a quick look at the rosters reveals OU has 111 players and of those, 23 are from Oklahoma.
Of those 23, 9 are freshman so on average they would be within 150 miles..
There are three freshman players from out of state whose numbers really upped the average distance however as they are from Hawaii, London England and Nigeria.

How many schools have kickers from Australia?

And that makes sense. It also may be just some of the more high profile skill players that skew it, too. Guarantano was from Jersey (IIRC), and of course Iamalavalamp was from California.
