The DeBoer experiment is a failure. Why?

DeBoer will not succeed at Alabama. He was successful other places but it hasn’t/didn't/wont work in Tuscaloosa. Why?

He beat Oregon and Texas with less talent in Washington.

Yet he’s 5-5 in his last 10 at Alabama. Hes 1-4 on the road against unranked teams. All of those he was favored by multiple TDs.

He’s not the guy.

What makes a guy get to this level and shite the bed? Is it that he can motivate lower tent guys to work hard but that it doesn’t work at the top level? Is he just lazy now?

Yes, he has nothing to worry about. His contract buyout guarantees generational wealth. That and he isn’t from this part of the country. We’re in a tough position because of the buyout. But he’s such a bad fit for this job that we almost have to make a move very soon if we drop the Georgia and Vanderbilt games. There will be too much outside noise if that happens.

I've said it tongue in cheek but the route out of this is to make it where the DeBoers want to not be Tuscaloosa more than wanting every dime of his contract.

Go look at Paragraph 10 in the CBS story Diego just posted and you will get your answer.

It takes a special personality not just to win in the SEC but to win at Alabama. DeBoer doesn’t have that kind of personality and Byrne should’ve figured that out before he gave him an $80 million.

“Program insiders told CBS Sports this offseason that DeBoer truly believes in his abilities to out-scheme and out-think opponents and prioritizes it over the mental toughness Saban used to drill into his teams.”

Does it really matter? Everyone will just clamor for another finesse, soft shotgun spread guy and continue to dilute what made Alabama Alabama to begin with.

At other stops he really only needed to focus on a few games a year. Washington fans said they would struggle against lesser teams as well. But in the SEC even the bad teams have good coaches and good coaches. FSU obviously does too.

When you have more than 2 important games a year it’s hard and he clearly can’t consistently get the team ready week after week

When you are gifted the top you don’t put the work in to stay there, might sound cliche but I firmly believe he thought he could cruise control his way to top 1-3 in the SEC year after year. Saban never stopped working. His assistants never stopped. His players never stopped. Seems to me like Byrne has allowed a culture of its okay to maintain rather than a make their arse quit mantra.

He’s trying to play a finesse team in a power league.

In the SEC you live or die in the trenches. We looked like the worst DL in the league yesterday.

Morning practices. Our team isn’t tough and can’t fight through adversity. We are soft. Practicing in the afternoon heat can help in those areas. Not saying it’s the end all, but basically pampering the players practicing when it’s not hot - that ain’t it.

That ship has sailed. Hell, everybody's screaming for Kiffin, do you think he's going to line up in the I and run 50 off tackle plays?

At Washington, he had to get his team “up” for games 1-2 times per year. It’s why they often barely beat teams that had a lot less talent. It’s not hard to get your team up as an underdog. In fact it’s pretty damn easy to do. You can get your team ready to play Texas or Oregon (or Georgia).

He’s never had to deal with getting everyone’s best shot. I don’t know how it hasn’t been drilled into the kids heads that everyone we play has the bama game circled on the schedule. Maybe they just don’t care anymore.

It’s very simple. DeBoer is a terrible culture fit. As already stated, he looked good at Washington in the 2 or 3 big games they had every season and mailed it in against the Stanfords of the PAC-12 because he could get away with it. You can’t do that in the SEC. It’s not a part time job. He doesn’t understand that and never will. He’s out of his element and just a bad fit for the program.

We’d be better off if he did. Lane might be the poster child for “getting way too cute offensively” as a play caller.

I said before the season that my hope was that 2024 showed him that you have to be up every, single, solitary week in the SEC, without exception or deviation, because even the weakest team in the conference has a puncher's chance against you on a given day.

He did not learn that lesson.

I’ve actually heard former players say this is a really big deal and shows the DeBoer doesn’t get it. That in every sport, you practice around the time where your game will be played. We practice in the morning.

while i'm not at all happy with the results thus far in the kdb tenure. lets not pretend this downward spiral didnt start when we shifted to a weaker strength program. but now we're stuck, period.

And this is why I don't want Lanning coaching this program either.

Not me. We'd just be paying his $70 million buyout 2-3 years later.
He's never won anything as a HC...not sure why anyone mentions him outside of just not knowing any other
names. It's about fit, not a splash hire...and that's why you're paying an AD over a million dollars a year...to know what fits and find it.

Take a chance on an unknown guy that would "fit"...pay him 5x what he's making now, but no ridiculous buyout...nothing remotely approaching a guaranteed $80 million.

Then if you catch lightning in a bottle...awesome. If not, no huge cost to try again. Paying for the "big name" worked with Saban, but Saban is an anomaly.
