Now, I want to acknowledge beforehand that this could all be a conspiracy because of ESPN's affiliation with the SEC.

Regardless, as we all know, the conference schedules are not remotely the same. Going into the 2025 season, the SEC has 16 teams in the top 20 for pre-season SOS, while the B1G has 3. How the frick does any of this make sense with the B1G and the other 2 conferences' push to have the SEC play 9 conference games?

Theoretically, 9 conference games makes sense, but realistically speaking, playing 9 games would definitely hurt the conference and would lead to more shitty B1G, Big 12, and ACC teams to get in over much better SEC teams.

If the SEC did move to 9 conference games, should we get rid of the SECCG? I feel like it would 100% not serve any purpose, as most believe it already shouldn't be played in this current era of the CFP.

How much money does the SEC CG make? Is the conference going to be willing to give up that money?

I doubt it. That’s the bottom line.

Will it continue to make that much money in the playoff age?

Wouldn't adding a 9th conference game make up for it?

9th conf game plus SECCG is just even more money.

I just know Texas is pushing for a 9th conference game. Not saying whether that's the right way to go or not. I don't think I care either way.

But Del Conte's position is that with a 9th conference game they can have 4 home games and 4 away games plus the neutral site in Dallas. They'll keep a strong OOC opponent and then 2 creampuffs with an FBS program, probably an instate school to help their program financially. Especially the UT system schools like UTEP and UTSA. I could see them maybe doing a 2 for 1 again with Rice at some point.

I feel like the Big 10 has tried to throw their weight around a little bit regarding the 9 conference games, and I can say I think that's a bad move. The SEC might just stick to 8 conference games simply to spite them.

If we could play ourselves, our ranking would be much tougher.

Is it? If you add a 9th conference game, ESPN loses 8 other games to broadcast and get revenue from. Will the increase in SEC games makeup for the overall loss of TV games for ESPN?

I don’t understand how fans would prefer playing Mercer in Nov vs a 9th conference game.

The Covid year of 10 straight sec opponents was amazing.

Fans should get a clue. IF the Playoff Committee does not reward SOS again this season, why should we?

IF the Playoff Committee screws this up again, most SEC OOC schedules will look just like Ole Miss.

You already play 3 of the 5 lowest ranked FPI teams in conference. Missouri is in that bottom 5 as well.

In our defense, we were abandoned by 2 P4 schools for this season.

Will add though will be curious to see how the committee responds this year to all the criticisms regarding strength of schedule from last year.

BAMA
@FSU
ULM
WISC
(4) @UGA
VANDY
@MISSOU
(19) TN
(13) USCe
(6) LSU
(25) OU
E ILL
@AU

TX
(5) @OSU
SJSU
UTEP
Sam Hou
(19) @UF
(25) OU
@UK
@MSU
(4) @UGA
ARK
(24) A&M

I dont get Texas having a higher SOS than Bama at all.

Both play at UGA and at home against OU so thats a wash.

LSU at 6 is close to a wash with OSU (5) with a slight edge there for it being on the road.

But otherwise who is taking @FSU, Wisc, Vandy, @Missou, TN, @USCe and @AU

compared to:
@UF, @UK, @MSU, ARK, A&M?

Its not even close. Two competitive games for TX vs 4-7 competitive games for Bama depending on how things shake out.

Also should be noted that the B1G's #1 and #2 SOS are helped by the fact they both play...........Top 10 SEC teams.

The question wasn't about the fans but ESPN. That is why ESPN has pushed back and refused to pay more $ for a 9th SEC game. They lose a lot of content in that situation and apparently they feel the losses of content outweigh the additional interest in a 9th SEC game.

Missouri is on the schedule for several teams who have the toughest schedule. You are welcome.

So is Arkansas. We're ranked 1 spot higher in this index. You aren't making any sense.

9th conference game or keep the SEC title....having to play 10 conference games(9+1) would be insane when it is clear the CFP does not care about SOS.
