Most High Profile Football Crime?

Football players getting arrested is an old tradition. This year is no different.
What is the most extreme crime related to football?
Some ideas…
Mark Ingram’s dad being in prison was a big story in his Heisman year. Heisman winner Billy Cannon went to prison for counterfeiting. Ray Lewis probably should be in prison for murder. Leonard Little killed someone in a DUI. Henry Ruggs did the same. Four Auburn players held a family at gun point and robbed them. Aaron Hernandez checked the boxes to be considered a serial killer. The Georgia staffer and Carter racing killed a Georgia player.
What is the absolute worst?

True crime podcasts should have been done about that one.

I’ll play. Texas A&M LB Darius Claiborne. The heir apparent of Von Miller. A&M’s next best LB. Twitchy guy, played one year for us as a freshman in the SEC. I’d argue faster than Edgerrin Cooper was for us.
Got arrested and kicked off the team for robbing and pistol whipping the frick outta his weed dealer.

But… he wasn’t guilty… if the glove doesn’t fit you must acquit.

Aaron Hernandez comes to mind…

I know it’s high school but I would say Dallas Carter High 1988. 6 guys (most who had football schools) robbed stores and restaurants for 6 months. One teammate who refused was Jesse Armstead who ended up at Miami and NFL. All 6 went to prison.

I forget the exact details, but Cecil Collins seemed to be on his way to becoming something really bad.
Kicked off the LSU team and arrested for breaking into female's rooms.
Later arrested on burglary charges in Florida, which he refuted by saying "he only wanted to watch her sleep". It was a woman he'd met at the gym
I hate to imagine exactly what he was progressing towards.

Aren’t there a fair number of people in south Dallas who still say that was all racist law enforcement and those boys didn’t do anything? Despite video, witnesses, and confessions?

If we're including coaches it has to be Sandusky and the Penn State scandal.

Including Joe Paterno's cover up.
That and Art Briles' rape factory at Baylor along with their cover up were the first two I thought of.

So, did Ray Lewis actually murder a guy?

Rae Carruth
While a member of the Carolina Panthers hired a guy to kill his pregnant girlfriend and also participated in the killing. The baby was born brain damaged prematurely delivered by the corpse.
*I give this a higher rank than OJ because Carruth was in the prime of his career at the time of his crime and the thread title is football crime. OJ was 20 years retired.
