Wasn’t that his national championship qb? The only championship big game Bob ever won?

Not sure that Heupel is the guy you want to be fighting over beef. He's probably killed crackheads for their last gas station hot dog.

Heupel was emotional and thanked his team when they beat OU. Said something along the lines of “thank you for doing that for me”.

He definitely left OU on bad terms or something, just forgot why.

Yes and yes

Stoops fired offensive coordinator Josh Heupel from OU in 2015 is the reason for the beef.

Heupel was fired by Stoops as the OC because Stoops didn't want to fire his brother Mike (who was a bad DC). Then he brought in Lincoln Riley to basically run the same offense that Heupel was running successfully. Heupel feels like he got scapegoated for a bad season that was really the defenses fault. Set Heupel's career back cause his own coach abandoned him. He had to go to Utah State and start over. Now he hates Stoops and wont really be in the same room with him or so I've heard.

Heupel had basically given 12 years of his life to OU and Stoops but when push came to shove, Stoops picked his brother over Heupel.

OU finished 8-5 in 2014.

The five losses:

TCU 37-33
KSU 31-30
Baylor 48-14
OSU 38-35 (OT)
Clemson 40-6

The D gave up at least 31 pts in all five losses. The offense scored at least 30 pts. in 3/5 losses.

It would seem (at least by scores) that the defense was more of a liability than the offense in the five losses.

The defense wasn't great, but the offense left them in plenty of spots where the defense would have had to be perfect. Josh is a great coach, and a good person. He improved dramatically after spending time at Utah and morphing his offense to something different. Add in is time at UCF, and it doesn't compare to his time at OU. He got much better at calling plays, and learning when to slow down his offense, and not go fast all of the time. While at OU he had the same problem Lebby had - all gas, no brakes. The offense has to be complimentary to the defense and realize when to slow things down to give them a brief rest. His time at other programs made him the coach he is today.

I wasn't a fan of the way things went down with Heupel at OU. The quick three and outs at Mizzou could hurt sometimes, but man that offense was fun to watch the two years he was OC.

It's amazing people can't do a basic Google search. Of course Heupel is pissed that is former coach and alma mater fired him.

It's like asking "Why doesn't Alabama hire Mike Shula as their OC?"

If only Stoops and Saban could both come back to OU and Bama.

Legends would be exposed.

NIL has a way of doing that.

Lets not forget that Stoops also wanted him to run the Zone Read, which is not what he was originally brought in to run. In the Sugar Bowl against Bama, he ran the offense he wanted to run and it was the best offensive showing of the year.

I dislike Chumlee and the Buttchuggers as much as the next guy, but this is 100% correct.

Bob Stoops was never all that. But he hung on for far too long to a DC that hurt his teams badly. I watched Mack Brown do it until he hired Muschamp. I watched Coach Saban do it for 5 years until he finally sent Pete Golding packing. Far too late, and it cost him his best offensive teams ever at BAMA. And at least 2 more natties.

Being stubborn for the right thing is a blessing. Being stubborn about the wrong thing will always be a curse. Oh well, feet of clay.

From 2000-2010 he was 122-26. Which is good for a winning percentage of 82%. He won a national title and played for three others. He also won seven B12 titles in that span. He was one of the top coaches in the country for a decade.

the zone read is a play. It’s not an offense. So not sure what you mean here.

He may be pissed about how things went down. But it turned out to be a real kick-em-out-of-the-nest moment. If he had stayed, he may have just stagnated into oblivion. Moving to UCF especially forced him to become decisive, a situational thinker, and understand the management of an entire game - not just a series.

Question for Sooner fans who were around during the Heupel reign: How many offensive delay-of-game penalties did OU average per game with him as OC?

Now: How many delay-of-game penalties has Heupel had overall since becoming head coach at Tennessee?
