He didn’t look like he had his stuff going but I kind of agree. I think you give him at least one or two more batters to settle in.

Yes. Starting pitching is by far the weakest link on this team. The bullpen can carry, as you saw.

He walked 2 and a fluke hit by pitch with one hit

With that zone and his stuff

I mean the guy that brought in was great so I guess bullpen not shot

Yes. Hogs have a strong bullpen but inconsistent starters. No way you can ride him after 2 walks and a HBP.

It gave Root a chance to come back in game 3 or 4. On the other side it spent Gaeckle for almost the entire entire week except for maybe Thursday if needed. So kind of depends on who you’d rather have available.

Root probably starts Tuesday if we get there, if I had to guess.

Yep. I can't question any of DVH's pitching moves. I commented Gaeckle was looking tired and Dave pulled him after finishing that at bat. The pen giving up one run after the 3 run second is pretty good. Can give Root another start or in relief, he should be rested.

Our batter was a little out of box - not sure on rule - thought it might get challenged

LSU's big inning was flukey - I am glad we won that game was tight though

Root can get a little emotional. I think DVH got the same feeling many of us did and that he was going to lose his shite. Bad breaks happen and bad calls, but I don't know that he's the guy to bury it in the back of his mind and come back from it. We'll never know, but it felt like the right move to me even if it seemed premature.

at this point in the year nobody has a better emotional pulse on Root than DVH. You gotta figure he saw something he’s seen a dozen times and knew Root was ready to come out. Didn’t have best stuff. it happens. on to Plan B. the unfortunate thing in the CWS is that your plan A really needs to work. DVHs plan B was still good enough to beat 99% of the teams in the country, but he ran into LSU’s plan A (Kade) who was in top form.

Yes, even if Gabe didn't do well, which he did, I liked the move. It saves Root for another day. It's a long tournament in the loser bracket side. If we plan on staying a while, we'll need him again.

He was pulled too early. You give him a chance to get out of the second and he probably gets you to the 5th. If he gives up a couple more runs there you save GG for the losers bracket.

And I only say that because we’re were up against an elite pitcher. 3 runs is a big lead in a pitching duel.

In hindsight it was the right move. However it was a panic move and proved how much more composed LSU is as a program. There’s a reason Arkansas has zero titles.

I was shocked he got pulled so early, but the bullpen dominated our batters so it was a good move. DVH proved, once again, that he is a damn good coach
