Can we just dump $350 million into NIL for a year?

The University of South Carolina’s Board of Trustees voted on Thursday to continue moving forward with $350 million worth of improvements to Williams-Brice Stadium.

These approvals help us get one step closer towards our goal of beginning construction following the conclusion of the 2025 football season. In the coming months, we will be able to show Gamecock fans finalized concepts I know they will be excited about.

Among the ideated premium seating options are 10 new “Founder’s Suites” in the 100 level, and 33 suites in the 200 level with connected clubs. There’s also plans for a new field-level club with access to the lower bowl.
Secondly, the school hopes to improve the student section. University architect Derek Gruner on the call, while noting that this portion was still “very much under design” – said that an air-conditioned club was being contemplated for the student section, in addition to more restrooms and a concourse.

Shame. 350 million doesn’t get you that much anymore. Could nearly renovate the whole thing in 2018 with that.

Facilities upgrades are so 2020.

More suites for the high rollers. Gotta service the folks that keep the NIL program funded, I guess.

ideated premium seating options
We did that a while back at Bryant-Denny, and the AD pointed out that the future of attendance is fewer seats, more "premium" amenities like clubs, lounges, etc.
Basically they all know they're losing the Average Joe, and need to fill these billion-dollar facilities with people who enjoy watching in a massage chair with bottle service.
What they don't realize (imho) is that running off the Average Joe that built these programs is going to tank them all in the long run. At the current prices, and now with NIL tacked-on, most 'normal' people would rather sit at home and watch on TV.
I'd personally rather have a new basketball arena instead of another $100-million football locker room upgrade. But that's just me.

Maybe spend a few million trying to figure out how to drain the city of Columbia during the monsoon season. After 15 minutes that place goes under water.

Eddie Floyd is still alive? Dadgum. He's a Lake City boy. My mom's people are from Turbeville. She grew up down the road from Dorn Smith.

quote:I'm guessing that you don't have $350 lying under a mattress, and that some of that money will come from revenue bonds backed by the revenue generated from new premium seating. Pretty hard to borrow money for NIL.
