Very similar coaches
Neither have won a CWS
Both CWS runner ups x1
Schloss has been to Omaha x7
DVH has been to Omaha x9
Both a bit of a choking hazard, esp DVH

A lot of games coached between these two. Glad to have them in the best conference in America

I see no lies here. Selfishly I do wish DVH could pull one out though.

To add both had the World Series won if they would have burned the game 3 starter to win game 2.

The stars have to align perfectly. In 2021, Lemonis inherited the perfect team. Two knock out starters, a closer we have not since since Holder, good defense, adaquate offense, NC State gets sent home and Vanderbilt burned their pitchers. Championship Series, we got slammed the first game. Two and three really weren't competive.

Yeah. Get to Omaha and it's a roll of the dice. We've won it 6 times on 38 trips. 6 more runners up. I think, "that's some bad luck", but FSU's gone 24 times and never won it. Baseball's cruel as hell.

Good coaches put their players in position to succeed. I don't recall DVH dropping an easy fly ball

Coaches get too much blame and too much credit honestly

At some point I think he will but he’s 64 and time is running out. Omaha is basically luck of the draw.

LSU’s last national championship was won and Skenes didn’t throw a single pitch in the championship series.

Both DVH and Schloss are topnotch head coaches. Fielding consistent winners over decades is a great achievement, maybe better than a short career that includes a NC and mediocre seasons.

Yeah that nc state was the best team and if it weren’t for stupid covid restrictions they would’ve dog walked anybody in the finals

How does a coach choke?

Well bringing in a freshman for his second appearance of the season in a one run game in the 9th against a hot hitting team comes to mind

How is that choking? We were already losing the game.

Easy to speculate as NC State was playing really good baseball but there was no guarantee that they would have beaten Vanderbilt much less State in the final.
Plus Vandy had a huge advantage over us as Leiter was well rested and able to pitch in the first game of the CWS finals.
Additionally Vandy had Rocker pitching game three and we knocked him out in the fifth inning.
State played seven CWS games and committed 0 (Zero) errors defensively. That along with outstanding pitching and TIMELY hitting is what won it for us.

But to say that NC State was the best team is purely based on assumptions and we know that can lead to. State will forever more be the 2021 CWS champs.
And yes we know plenty of heartbreak when it comes to college baseball. We had teams in 1979, 1984, 1985, 1989, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2013 & 2016 all capable of winning it all but none did and several of those teams did not even make it to Omaha despite having a great regular season.
College baseball is the cruelest sport but it is also the best because more teams have an opportunity to go all the way.

Schloss & DVH are great coaches. Period. Ron Polk was a great coach who never won it all but that doesn’t diminish anything he did for the game overall.

Both are good coaches who haven't won a NC yet.. there is a 10 year age gap though..

DVH is 64 years old.
Augie was 63 years old in 2002 when he won his 1st NC at Texas.
Schloss is 54 years old
Bertman was 53 years old in 1991 when he won his 1st NC.

^ What does all this mean? Who fricking knows.. I was just pointing out that there was a 10 year age gap.. I think DVH might get over the hump this year.

Just a minor nitpick, Augie already had three titles in his pocket when he got to Texas, including one all the way back to 1979.

What's the thought on how long DVH will coach? I see he'll be 65 this fall?
