How would you rank Jalen Milroe amongst our other QBs who have started this century?

I'm throwing back-ups who ended up starting due to injury or whatever out of this discussion.
So the players ineligible for this discussion are the following:
Marc Guillon
Spencer Pennington
Brandon Avalos
Cooper Bateman
Blake Barnett
Tyler Buchner
That means the following players are IN the discussion:
Andrew Zow
Tyler Watts
Brodie Croyle
John Paker Wilson
Greg McElroy
A.J. McCarron
Blake Sims
Jacob Coker
Jalen Hurts
Tua Tagovailoa
Mac Jones
Bryce Young
Jalen Milroe
If I'm being perfectly honest, I would have to say that Milroe was the worst QB of the Saban Era. He was extremely athletic with huge upside but he was inconsistent with distribution of the football and made tons of costly mistakes that led to turnovers.

Near the bottom if not the bottom. As I get older I am getting more comfortable with a game manager QB who is fast enough to get out of a bad situation. Look at Mahomes. He is not speedy but he knows when to tuck and run and most of the time it is north and south and not east and west.

It’s really hard to compare to the guys pre 2010 or so because the rule changes have made the offensive game so much easier.
I would have ranked Milroe pretty low but above some of the lesser Saban era QBs until that Oklahoma game. Based on his slide tackle attempt in that game, he’s not making some of the gritty, “winning” plays that Coker, McElroy, or Sims made.
I think Milroe was definitely better than Zow though, so he’s not dead last.

Above JPW, below everyone else. The amount of turnovers for JPW was insane. The Human Turnover Machine.

People remember that game against Auburn, and always rank Zow too high on these.
Zow in his junior year completed less than 50% of his passes and had more than twice as many interceptions as TDs.
I know the game is significantly different now, but he’s the worst on this bunch and there’s no chance I’m taking him over Milroe.

JPW had better stats in 2007 than Milroe had last year

Why does that matter? Did you lose your boyfriend?

When are we going to stop obsessing over this guy? He’s gone and 100% of the fanbase and players are glad about it.
Let it go.
Let it go.

I don’t think it’s rules so much as development and innovation. Offensive coaches have had another 15 years to sit around and think shite up and more millions than ever to motivate them. Players also enter programs better prepared to play.

Better than Watts, Zow, Croyle, Wilson
Behind everyone else
Behind everyone else

Almost put Milroe above Watts and Zow. I think rose tinted glasses for the past got me on that one. I really had forgotten how middling Zow’s numbers were for his career. Also I’m remembering how Watts seemed to be cursed with playing a good game save for back breaking turnovers.
Croyle also couldn’t stay healthy and didn’t play like a superstar when available. Wilson was similarly afflicted with the inopportune mistakes like Watts.

Tua Tagovailoa (2019 may have been very different without an ankle surgery 2 weeks before LSU; and certainly different without a hip injury in scrap time)
Bryce Young
Mac Jones
A.J. McCarron (easily in top 3 conversation if in a Kiffin era forward Bama offense)
Jalen Hurts
Blake Sims
Jacob Coker
Jalen Milroe
Greg McElroy
John Paker Wilson
Brodie Croyle (I think he'd be top 5 if he'd stayed healthy)
Andrew Zow

I’m probably going to get downvoted to hell … like that bothers me … but ask me in 5 or 10 years when the memories aren’t as fresh (or painful). That’s the only way you’re going to get a truly fair assessment.

Nah, you're right. I was reminded to go look at what a Zow/Watts era QB performance looked like and I'm not sure you can definitively say they're better than Milroe anymore. Both afflicted with a similar problem of "good when they're good but a straight up insider threat when they're off."

He was better than watts, Zow and jpw

He did lead Bama to an SEC Championship and a couple plays away from a NC appearance that we likely would have won so he is ahead of many on that list … frustrating QB though
