As per the Fort Worth Star Telegram, not a jackleg Twitter account or Go Daddy webpage manned by someone in pajamas in his mama’s basement.
Fix the portal and this s**t will stop. Because if it doesn’t stop, THIS is what will destroy the sport.

He plays for the name on his chest it seems like.

Maybe so but full disclosure, he’s still getting paid, $2.6 million according to one online source. That doesn’t bother me like it bothers some folks. The Wild West portal where the highest bidders are conducting a meat market every year does.

Tenner needs to go on probation for tampering.

That sounds a lot like tampering

Interesting to note that this Hoover guy from TCU was a three star QB who was ranked #30 by Rivals in the 2022 class.
This is the guy you are going to try to get to replace your 5 star #1 2023 recruit.
What is wild is that of the top 30 rivals QBs from '22... Only 8 are still (or completed their college career) at the place that they originally signed.
It appears that it really isn't even worth recruiting a HS QB anymore. Let the smaller schools get the QBs.... Then see who rises to the top over the first couple of years... and then go buy them.

Tenn u tried to play the good guy and said no to Nico demands but gonna tamper with another school’s player trying to buy him out. You are part of the problem!!

Dude in real life not in the opinion of people assigning stars to make fans click on monetized links set a school passing yardage record and completed 2/3 of his passes with more than twice as many TDs as interceptions. Yes it was in the Big 12 but it appears he can play regardless of his star ratings. Maybe those will get less relevant?

Tennessee is tampering bad

Everyone applauds Tennessee for not bending the knee to Lamaleava.
Then….Tennessee turns right around and tries to poach a player from another team offering more $$$.
If Tennessee had gotten this QB, Tennessee, and other fans would have spun it that this kid did the right thing to go for more $$$ and play for a better team.
There are very few good guys in college sports anymore.

He should've taken it. Who here is turning down a million dollars for loyalty to "muh company"?

I said in another thread based on some comments from a Knoxville talk show host, Tennessee wasn’t taking a stand against excessive money, it was taking a stand against crazy, i.e. Big Nic’s demands.

Those that are tampering and those that are lying about tampering.

But given the circumstances what choice do they have? For every fan who gripes here about hating this mess and we should blow it up and go back to in state kids wanting to play for the glory of a school, there are 4 who only care about the bottom line, win or at least play for the big trophy or you’re gone. I would rather be in hell with my back broken than be a coach, a school GM or an AD trying to deal with this right now.

Part of that is that Covid messed up evals for QBs pretty badly with very little in the way of on campus evals and no camps.

In a way I take this as a positive. This TCU QB recognized that it is not all about money and made a sensible decision to stay at TCU even with the 1 million raise offered by Tennessee.
So even in this wide open college football market some players are recognizing the value of being in a stable situation where they have had some good results.
However, doesn’t this make Tennessee look like a bunch of hypocrites after they trashed Nico for chasing the $’s?

Your last sentence is why I posted this. Although in fairness Tony Basilio the Knoxville talk show host said the other day that Tennessee wasn’t taking any grand principled stand against excessive money, they were taking a stand against crazy, as in Nico’s posse and their specific demands.

Kind of shitty for 10 RC.
Dan Lanning did you a solid. So you go try to stab another coach/program in the back. So much for honor.

I don’t think so. Tennessee never claimed this was an ethical stand. It was getting rid of a locker room cancer that sealed his fate by going incommunicado with the coach. I don’t think it was even as much about the money as the actions that were taken. I think everyone else is wrongly seeing it as some morality play.
