Is not really name, image and likeness. It's full blown free agency with no caps (unlike pro sports) and players trying to hold schools/the team hostage while they get a free education. Heupel deserves praise for telling Nico to frick off.

The real problem, right here in one screenshot.

I was too lazy to make this same post but yea, what was Nico going to do outside of football to be worth $4M NIL.

NIL and the portal are two different things.
The money is staying. That ship has sailed and fans need to get over it.
FIx the portal, make the players commit for X period to get their money, and the problem is solved.
The money isn't destroying the sport, except in the eyes of some fans who still think this stuff should be pure amateur when there haven't really been pure amateur sports at a high level in this country for 50 years.
The portal, unrestricted every year free agency, is killing the sport. Fix it and the problem is solved.

I think it can be relatively easily cleaned up with a few steps
1) You can only use the transfer portal once after that you are back to the old school sit out a year system
2) The transfer portal is only open after the national championship game and only has one window
3) NIL deals should be allowed to contain multi year terms similar to signing a 4 year deal in pro sports
If you just make those simple changes at least the entire sport isn't a free agent twice a year year after year.

You get it. Free agency is the problem not the players getting paid. That must be reined in.

It's fixed very easily:
1) high school draft. This kills the incentive for NIL out of high school. You can opt out but then can't play first year.
2) pay them salaries, give them two year contracts. Greatly reduces transfer and NIL around transfer
It's now all legal and every route to abuse NIL is no longer a viable path

You will never and I mean never ever ever have a high school draft LOL.
My plan is far easier to impement

Problem is…. The courts have shot down all the easy fixes fans keep saying are easy fixes.

I think we've learned that if you allow kids to "opt out", they gladly will. The 5 star dudes will get paid by some school and their NIL group to sit out a year and join them the following season.

Coaches are free agents also

They haven't shot down employment contracts, which is what is coming.

See I don't think so.
Most 18 year olds are looking for the fastest path to the NFL, full stop.
Playing next year gets you on the radar. Waiting a year means some other blue chipper might take your job. Then you're back where you started.

I understand that and I know people use that to want to give the players complete freedom, but to a certain extent ... not totally to an extent if you'll think about it ... it's apples and oranges. People may say that's unfair but life is inherently unfair.

While true...
The intent of NIL was to allow these guys to make money off of autographs, pitch chicken wings, and get paid to be on car commercials...
The intent of NIL was not straight pay for play...
The collectives need to be outlawed as soon as they get this 20 million cap thing going. Force the businesses who hire them to pay them 500K to do the car commercials and sell burgers..

Agree, couldn’t say it better myself.

I’m just saying that if a coach can bolt from his contract at any time, then the players will be afforded that opportunity also… per the courts

We can agree on this - but who can legally do any outlawing?
NCAA cannot do anything.
Unless Congress passes a law, it won’t happen. I don’t know if the courts would support it anyway.

No.... kids are pay for play mercenaries.
Used to, kids wanted to play at a school where they could win a natty. Then it was based on getting to the NFL and making NFL money. Now, it's make money now in case they can't make it in the NFL past a rookie deal. HONESTLY I think the majority of these moves by kids are fueled by their parents. Sorry parents, your kids are supposed to provide you with a luxurious lifestyle.
