I know, they are still playing hoops and honestly I feel like they have a great shot at winning the whole thing.

But from a fans perspective, how y’all feel about the football program currently?

Interest noted.

Soon they'll start talking about how football doesn't matter, just like they said about football for generations until Pearl showed up.

247 does a combination of high school and transfer portal rankings.

#6 ranked class in 2025
#8 in 2024
#19 in 2023
#21 in 2022

That’s a winning trend. The talent is starting to stack up.

Four losing seasons in a row.

Five game losing streak to in-state rival Daddy Bama.

Eleven straight seasons with at least four losses.

Hugh Freeze is the head coach.

Looks grim.

Since the Kick Six and their national championship loss to Florida State, they are 2-9 against Alabama and 78-64 overall. That includes a 42-50 in-conference record.

Not a solid state of affairs.

Auburn’s stretch from 2017-2024 is almost identical to Tennessee from 2007-2014. Auburn will be back, but man, they’re down bad. I didn’t realize that was their 4th losing season in a row.

Tennessee went 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, 5-7, and 7-6 from 2010-2014.

Did anyone else get more than two wins against Bama in that same stretch? Serious question.

Shambles.

There are positive signs, though. As someone else said we’re stockpiling talent.

Hugh had better show some progress this year though or his seat will be rocket hot.

It all depends on Arnold. I still think he's a great talent and a change of scenery is good for him.

Auburn has had a top 20 ranked roster every year since Malzhan was there. That was not good enough to even make a bowl game so they certainly weren’t ranked in the top 20. Outside of Cam Newton, Auburn has traditional done less with more, and their periods of success coincide with down periods at Alabama and/or Georgia.

A top ten roster in terms of talent should get Auburn to 7/8 wins a year consistently. They should, on paper, win 6-8 games and be bowl eligible this upcoming season. But on paper, they should have done the same this past season.

Freeze is a shitty coach. Good recruiter but a very subpar developer of talent or game day coaching. He has shown he is unable to keep a team even keeled and ready to play every game over the course of a season. Instead they will get up for three or four big games a year and win one or two of them. Then they will turn around and overlook a New Mexico State or Memphis, or some seasons multiple rent a win teams, and finish 7-5 or 8-4. He will recruit well but squander much of that talent by having no clue how to utilize it. Freeze will beat Alabama every three years or so. Auburn fans will not be happy, but he will win just enough to not get fired for 5 or 6 more seasons. Then he will either have a down season or screw up and get him and/or Auburn in trouble and be fired.

People will look back at him, just like at Ole Miss, and ask “how did he have that much talent and win nothing of any consequence?”
