You got more out of Cal in one year than UK did in the last 5 - 10
#1 Coaches come and go but you have a long window history
#2 Hogs vs Cats has redeemed some Nolan vs Pitino luster
The only real downside is you now see Cal's vulnerability first hand on end of game "deer in headlights" the UK fans have seen all too often. If Cal is short term at least he has brought visibility for your next coach.
Good luck with next season and get back soon to those Sutton and Nolan type teams!

Not really, we closed out very well vs KU and SJU, but that's another fallacy buzzword. In fact down the stretch we closed out exceptionally well the final several weeks (Mizzou, Vandy, MSU, Texas).
Hogs did very well for not having their 2 leading scorers. Not sure there are 2-3 other teams in the nation that could do what we did this year, and that's just props to Cal for developing his players over the season to be in that position where guys like Knox and Richmond didn't even see the floor much for the first couple of months and were very raw but by seasons end were studs. Knox will be a star next season next to Acuff, wet dream type of stuff right there.

Not to dissipate your point but for giggles
Look at what Cal started the season with
Look at what Pope started the season with
Look at Hogs injuries this season
Look at Cats injuries this season
Honestly, between the 2 coaches, who has done more with less?
Show me the wisdom of what is in your brain.

Pope.
Pope.

Not sure how Texas Tech getting hot in the last few minutes, including rattling in a 3 with 9 seconds to go, has anything really to do with Cal’s coaching vulnerabilities. Not to mention Arkansas’ inability to make crucial free throws down the stretch.

Cal had NO roster when he got there. LITERALLY.

I get this a popular talking point amongst Hog fans, but the truth is Cal had more returning talent, that he himself recruited and coached then he has had in years. Like Cal himself has said, it’s the same, just in a different location.

It should be concerning for hog fans that he had all that talent at Kentucky for so long and only won one title.

Well, yeah, overall, yes. But you have to give Cal some credit, as poorly as Arkansas played the first half of the season, they did come together and finished strong.

Very happy with Cal this season. I want more in the future but considering some of the obstacles this year I thought he did a great coaching job.
His in-game ability is what everyone knocks but it’s just objectively miles ahead of what we had under Musselman

Titles are not easy to win, especially in the tournament format.
What I want, and what we have so far, is a punchers chance to compete and make a run. Cal is going to have the talent here year in and year out to potentially make that run, if the roster gels and we catch a little luck here and there

We will find out soon but I'm not seeing anything different that I haven't seen at Kentucky.

We were out of control at the end of the game jacking up threes with 10-20 seconds left on the shot clock. Cal did nothing to rein them in. Should have called a timeout at the end as well.
Self, Izzo, Hurley, etc. don’t lose that game with a 13 point lead with 4 and a half minutes to go. Even with the refs favoring Tech in the second half if we just run the clock out on our possessions we escape with a win.
Cal’s late game management sucks. But a lot of other coaches would have never made the tournament with our injuries and new faces this year. You take the bad with the good.

Sutton and Nolan lost these types of games as well as every coach. Screw uk fans, they don’t know or have seen more than anyone else. Pitino lost big games there as well as all their coaches.
They wanted the best recruiting classes, cal delivered, they wanted exposure, cal delivered, they wanted, wanted, wanted until what they wanted wasn’t working and it was time to move on. Done deal, it’s over, folks should move on…..
