Will our size help defend Alabama guards?

They space really well so I assume we stay with shooters and don’t double the guards often. When they drive and kick or rebound and kick the 3s pour into the basket.

Sears is good, but Holloway has been surprisingly good. Always could see the talent, but for whatever reason he did not blossom here.

Pettiford is not a big guard, but Miles, Denver, and CBM are long.

Problem will be their quickness on drives. Usually, most teams are having to crash to help their paint defense, and it leaves someone wide open on the prerimiter for the kick out 3. *IF* Broome and Cardwell can kind of keep the paint controlled and we don't have to crash to help on drives when a guard is 1v1, then defensively I like our chances.

I’m just guessing.

I assume we’d like them to take tough twos instead of open threes.

So stay connected to shooters and block out bigs.

I know we block a bunch of shots most games, but that can release a big to collect offensive rebound or a dunker spot bucket.

It would be a great win, IF we can pull it off on the road.

Yea I don't know why so many teams commit so much to their drives. Unless it is a big, I don't want backside help on drives as much as possible. Contest the drive and 2 pt attempt, don't leave wide open 3's.

If we lose because they just hit everything around the basket and make their fair share of their 1v1 step back 3 balls they like to do, so be it. If we lose because we over-commit on drives and leave consistent wide open 3's and they just jack them up all game, won't be a happy camper.

We average 2 inches of height on their guards. They also ride spears who is 3-5 inches shorter than our guards. If we could get Spears into some early foul trouble it could be huge since hes averaging 80.5% minutes played since Jan 1.

If we play the defense that we are capable of we should have the advantage.

Sears also seems like a turnover machine. He's got 67 (1 per 11min). Denver Jones is the highest for Auburn at 40 (1 per 16min).

Forcing Sears into turnovers with our length will be huge.

Our bigs have got to stay home as well. No leaving our feet for crazy highlight blocks. Bama is pretty good at throwing the lob anytime a big helps on the drive, and/or just getting a shot up on the rim for an easy follow

I'm interested to see how their strengths match up with ours and vice versa, but if our defense can't bother them enough to reduce the shooting percentages they've been putting on other good teams we'll be in trouble.

Who would you put on Sears?

Denver, Miles, or CBM?
Combination?
Pettiford?

I think CBM and pettiford would be the best to get aggressive with him and force him to turn it over a few times.

Sears averages 2.8 TOs per game. If we can get him to 3 or 4 that would help alot and could kill some of their runs.

Of course, at some level, the refs will dictate how the game is played.

Yeah. I'm not exicted for the refs this game. Hopefully its not a select ref and it might be ok.

I love Tahaad but he's a terrible defender right now. Don't see how he can stay in front of Sears at all.

They have been pretty good at this so far this season. When GameDay was in Auburn I heard him talking about staying on their feet 3 different times that day, so you know he is drilling that into their heads in practice.

I can think of 4-5 off the top of my head I don't want to see, and I can almost guarantee at least one if not two of them will be there Saturday.

We have to figure out a way to guard Sears and not foul him. If he shoots 10 to 12 FT we're in trouble.

They have been starting 3 6'11" guys at the 3, 4 and 5. I think that may give us more issues than their guards.

I think you have to put Denver on him and hope he doesn't pick up ticky tack fouls from when Sears throws his head back like he's been picked off by a sniper.
