Fans are paying players salaries out of their paychecks and getting nothing in return except the hope the team will get better; no equity, nothing. This is beyond ticket sales or merchandising like NFL.
I can’t imagine Cowboy fans sending in cash to Jerry Jones to help increase his payroll to sign better players…and doing all of that just for their enjoyment and no equity.

What people do with their money is no concern to me.
Free market

Fans aren’t paying the salaries, the schools are via backroom revenue sharing deals

It also shows you that ur fav college team is nothing but a logo at this point.
The players don't give a damn about the school, the traditions, the history, etc.
They care about the school the same way the cashiers at Best Buy care about the company.

Same
I already pay enough to watch us lose simply by attending home games

It was trending that way well before NIL

So, what really has changed? Athletic scholarships were renewed on an annual basis before the portal and NIL and that remains the case now. The only thing that's changed is the players have the power the coaches used to have.

Individual donations into collectives such as the Texas One Fund (Longhorns) or 12th Man Foundation (A&M) are certainly avenues in which your average Joe fan can and does donate money to your schools NIL budget.
So it’s not all back room revenue sharing deals.

Backroom? This is pretty much all open. NIL funds are absolutely paying salaries.

I’d be willing to wager if you follow the money, the universities are making the vast majority of those donations. They’re the ones with almost unlimited guaranteed cash flows via tuition, box office revenue and merchandising, also oil and gas royalties in Texas’ case

The backroom aspect is that those NIL collectives are getting money through contracts, coach donations (see Brian Kelly) and various other redirections of money that would otherwise be in the school's fund.

Coaches have huge buyouts so the money can be used to find/pay for another coach.
It's no where near the same.

Couldn't agree more.

Exactly why I'll never give a dime to any team.

Yeah but some universities are paying salaries via stolen hospital funds.
Truly satanic.
