The list
2023 Georgia
2016 USC/Penn State
2015 Ohio State
2014 TCU
2013 Alabama
2012 Texas A&M
2007 Georgia
2006 LSU
2004 Auburn
2000 Miami

The first team 12-team Playoff has had plenty of takeaways, including the fact that the 2 teams playing for a title wouldn’t have even made the field in any previous era of the sport. In any other year of the 21st century, this Ohio State squad would’ve been seen as the scariest, most talented team that didn’t get into the field.
So it begs the question — which teams from 2000-23 could have won the title if they had been in the 12-team Playoff?

List is total shite if it doesn't include Spurrier's 2011 and 2012 teams at SC.

Those teams absolutely would’ve had a chance and with a healthy lattimore coulda won the whole shebang

By the end of year, that 2012 A&M team was nasty. All that line talent, Evans, Manziel, and a very serviceable defense.
The Florida and LSU teams that caught us early in the season wanted no part of the team that developed by November. But they got us when it counted.

Not sold on 2014 TCU
They were a really good team. Better than the 2022 team for sure

I think 2005 Ohio State 100% belongs in this conversation.
They played Texas in an incredible game in week 2. Lost in the last 2 minutes after switching QBs during the game. Then lost to a top 5 PSU team @PSU.
USC and Texas were both good but that OSU team was right with them I would say
By year end they had settled on Troy Smith as the QB and would have likely made a 4 team playoff much less the 12 team one
That was a fun year of football for sure

Ohio State was not beating Texas or USC, but would have made playoffs. Should have beaten Texas that year, too.

My opinion: They would have hit a roadblock of superior defensive talent. Think all of those high flying Oregon teams that just got clamped in the playoffs

2013 Mizzou also says "Hello"

Lattimore, Shaw, Clowney, Gilmore and about a dozen other future NFLers.

I would go the 2004 Texas team over this one. The Cedric Benson/Vince Young combo with that defense was scary

Yeah, it was a good team but nobody was beating 2004 USC. That team also got shut out 12-0 by Oklahoma.
2008 lost in Lubbock on the Crabtree play after Blake Gideon let an easy game winning interception slip through his hands. They beat OU by 10, the same amount Florida beat them for the title.
