Action 8 News spoke with Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin who said that the unidentified man in his 60’s and a friend stopped by boat at Kowaliga Restaurant for dinner. When they found out the restaurant was closed for a private party, the man tried to get back into the boat from the dock and accidentally fell into the water.

Not sure if he slipped and hit his head on the boat or dock.

Extremely sad. He was a pivotal part of the program. Chette first joined the Auburn program back when Tuberville was coach. Some of you might remember back then that Tubs and Richt did some wonderful Christian missionary work together in the offseason. Chette had a heavy hand in that. He was a major influence in a lot of players’ lives for the past few decades and this is a big time loss for Auburn football.

He was a great influence and many young males making the transaction from living at home to college life and on to adulthood. That is when many struggle, emotionally and spiritually.

Tragic. Lost a friend this last summer. He was bass fishing and got fishing line around his feet, fell in and drowned. He was religious about wearing his life preserver, but for some reason had taken it off and forgot to put it back on . You only get one chance to do it wrong. I put on my life jacket before my feet leave the shore and don't take it off till they're back on shore.
