If SMU gets in, why in the world should anyone play a tough OOC game?

No way LSU should open at Clemson next year. Or Texas at Ohio State. No benefit to playing those games.

If they don’t, why play a conf championship which is bigger

Exactly. Cancel that shite. Hell, maybe go independent and schedule the most reasonable schedule that can guarantee 10 or 11 wins.

I forgot how they would get in over teams that lost a game to OOC opponents?
Last I checked, Bama, Ole Miss and USCe all lost their 3 games in conference.

It’s about strength of schedule.

They shouldn't. W/L is all that matters.

Or just play those games and win.
The reality is that SEC teams in consideration at 3 losses got most of their losses IC, not OOC. The OOC game for SC (beating Clemson) is what got them IN consideration for a spot.
It's the conference losses that killed them, not OOC losses and those conference games aren't going away. The best solution is to give contenders from other conferences additional losses by WINNING those games.
If A&M had beaten ND, that would have helped all the SEC teams. UGA and SC did their part beating clemson, but they won their conference so there's nothing else they could do.
I think we should schedule more games against teams from the Big 12 and ACC... and win them.

Schedule whatever it takes to get 11 wins. Wouldn’t have mattered for bama this year since we lost in conference, but why take on the extra risk

You can already make this argument with Indiana.

Maybe Bama shouldn’t have lost to two 6-6 teams before talking about SOS.
Hell, a 7-5 ACC team took UGA to 8 OTs in Athens just last week. ACC must be completely awful.

The point is, why play them? SC’s win at Clemson is doing it no good at all. Why take the risk of losing a tough game?

When did Vandy become an OOC game? BAMA has been who most of this argument has revolved around and every one of their losses was in conference play.
The argument for staying where we are with conference games makes sense. SEC teams aren’t on the outside looking in because of any OOC scheduling. Even SC beat their playoff OOC foe.
The problem is our conference is beating itself up. The mega conference backfired.

Someone on here proposed that in the future, your SOS has to be top 50 to qualify, thus forcing teams from the weaker conferences to schedule some strong OOC games to compensate. I know - like most proposals - there are holes and questionable moving parts to that idea, but there needs to be some way to better value SOS.

IU, Penn State, Texas and SMU could all make the playoffs.
They’d have one combined top 25 win between them.

Georgia played the toughest schedule in the country and has a first round bye in the playoffs.
Just stop crying about it.

No one should ever play a difficult OOC game again. It clearly doesn’t matter. Adopt the ole miss scheduling process.

That’s crazy. It’s not great when I look at the bracket and think 8-4 LSU could beat half the teams in it. :)

You probably lost your QB and a hell of a good punter.. Don't you cry about it if you lose.
