Texas vs. Georgia is a needless game and waste of time and resources. Both are in playoffs and it’s just a useless game. Nothing but a money grab.

Hope nobody gets hurt. Maybe they should just flip a coin, ha! :)

Not really. The winner has to play 1 less game and gets a ton of rest time

So you play an extra game to not have to play an extra game? Makes sense..
How about Texas gets the bye this year because they have the best record in the conference?

They should just do away with conference championship games. They’re pointless now.
If the ratings go down then they’ll go away eventually.

Both would get rest if they didn't have to play at all. While Georgia and Texas have to practice and play, Tennessee is getting a "bye" week this week. The loser of Georgia v Texas is doubly screwed relative to a team like Tenn. They won't get the benefit of a bye this week and they won't get the benefit of a bye after losing the championship game.
The conference championships are unnecessary....just like the conference tournaments in basketball for the major conferences. It only really benefits the teams that won't make it in as "at-large" team as it provides them with an opportunity to make the CFP they otherwise wouldn't have (see Clemson this year). However, the conf. championship games make the league's money and I'm sure holding them is incorporated within the price of the TV contracts. That means they aren't going away any time soon. The "remedy" will be to expand the CFP to 14-16 teams in 2 years.

winner gets 24 days off with the 1st round bye (and claims an SEC Championship lol), loser plays in 2 weeks in the 1st round. don't really see how that's a waste of time

You are going to be real pissed one year when LSU doesn’t get a bye because it’s conference opponents had a record of 34-30 and another school does get a bye because it’s conference opponents had a record of 35-29, even if that school that had a bye has one more loss on the year.

You’re going to watch it. I’m going to watch it. Free football.

No one cares about the SECCG unless an important player gets injured in a meaningless game. Then I hope that player or school sues the SEC for forcing the game to be played. And in following years players opt out due to possible injury so they cancel it.

The funny thing about this statement is imagine how upset everybody would be if Texas was just declared the champion because they have a one game lead on the rest of the conference. Everybody, maybe even including Texas fans (I would feel weird about it), would feel strangely about that given their schedule and that they lost to the only very good team they played in conference. I know we are a great team, however beating Georgia in a title game will go a long way in legitimizing an SEC title.
Everybody would want to throw an asterisk on a Texas title if the league finished the way it is now without that game.

Starting in 1992.
Before then, it was just given to Alabama every year unless we declined.

Winner does get a bye so it means something.

Loser gets a bye too against Indiana or one of the other 5 dog shite teams that will make the playoffs.

People seriously overvalue 24 days off. Yes I think most, if not all, coaches would choose it over an extra 1st round game but there’s also an aspect of staying hot and playing well, avoiding the rust of all that time off.

Its always been about the money. It really is a bunch of BS though this year...the CFP Committee is constantly on about not punishing teams for losing the game but the loser is going to find itself in a worse situation than they are currently in. Conference should just go back to regular season championships and have 4-5 champions. Ohio State is sitting back with a bye week after getting their shite pushed in. Its the same number of games no matter what, it is nice to have a bye but its better to host a first round game than playing a really good opponent in a nuetral site game. Its a bunch of BS.
