FCS division has a perfect 24 team playoff set up every season, tried and true.

LINK

This is what it would have looked like last season if FBS had a 24 team playoff.

There's no saving college football now. The genie is out of the bottle.

It will 100% be 14-16 teams in 2026 when the contract renewal happens.

I can see 16 and I won't complain because it means more football but any more than that and I don't think we'll see the kinds of first round upsets we do in basketball so it will be mostly lower seeds getting stomped for the first weekend

ESPN: CFP officials discuss expanding to 14-team playoff in 2026

quote:

The idea of a 14-team College Football Playoff starting in the 2026 season was discussed at CFP meetings in Dallas on Wednesday, just months before the start of the first season with a 12-team playoff.

According to sources, the most dominant discussion of a new model revolved around a 14-team playoff, and CFP leaders left Wednesday's meeting feeling there was momentum. The bump from 12 to 14 teams, as opposed to 16, would mostly address the issue of access rather than finances.

There has been a push, especially from the Big Ten, for an increase in automatic qualifiers for the CFP. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti has made it clear that he values the regular season and believes that increasing automatic qualifier spots could assure that late-season games have higher stakes.

The Big 10 also dominates the CFP committee too. So, it will probably happen for 14 teams.

If it goes to 24 teams, the top 8 get byes, so none of them would play the lower seeds unless there is an upset.

I’m not for expanding but I’d rather this and cut out all the bs bowls.

Take all the coaches with the top records. Let's say four teams finish undefeated, or with just one loss.

Lock all the coaches in a cage. Have a WWE Style Texas Tornado Death Match. Winner take all.

I don’t know the rules around genies but can’t you just wish the genie to go back into the bottle? Or for this couldn’t you wish for a good college football system?

Too many SEC teams facing each other early in the bottom divisions in that graphics.

Seeding needs to happen so that if there's a rematch of a regular season game, it has to happen no sooner than the semis. DawgNation would travel.

16 team playoff with no byes. Committee seeding. All neutral sites. Higher seed picks first round site. Seeds set prior to conference championship games.

Use the 10 NFL Domes for all neutral sites plus Miami.

We’ll still be bitching about number 26. No one will ever be happy.

Frick that. Need more on campus games. the only neutral site games should be the championship game, possibly the final 4.

Just maximizing money and fairness.

I'm fine with first round home games higher seeds.

Also cool with P4 conference champs being guaranteed to host.

Gotta be neutral sites for quarters semis and finals though.

Hell yeah screw the bowls that everyone is gonna opt out of.

Let a team that has gotten hot at the end of the year make some noise in the playoff.

Hell, may as well go to the Texas high school football system where a set number of teams from each district gets in even if that means having winless teams in the playoffs.

12 is already on the verge of watering down the playoffs, but since we'll never drop to the optimum number (8, no G5 auto bid) then 12 is where it should stay
