If the SEC doesn't get at least 4 teams in the playoff, it's time for us to opt-out

Surprised that more folks here don't share that same sentiment

My team is in regardless of what happens in Atlanta, so this isn't self-serving

The SEC is and has been the strongest conference for years

There's no way that the Indiana's, Penn State's, SMU's and Boise State's of the CFB world would have a winning conference record in the SEC

Not really. This is why we have conference play. You’re also forgetting this is supposed to be amateur football but that was ruined.

The whole CFP structure sucks. No way should conference champions being given automatic byes. Auto berths, sure, but not a bye. They rank teams and seed them accordingly by how good and strong they are in Basketball and Baseball.

SOS should be a major determining factor. This committee just uses W-L record. They could get a group of idiot, non sports fans to do that. Why have a committee if you aren’t going to do deep dives into real metrics and rank teams by true strength.

The games those teams play have to matter tho.

If you just trump them because they don’t play in the SEC, what is the point of any of those teams playing a season.

Yes and no, this sport needs to reorganize itself and have some type of commissioner. Saban nailed it with the 40 teams idea.

If this were Texas HSFB it would be like having 4A, 5A, and 6A all competing for the same championship. It doesn't make competitive sense.

There is still too much dead weight and check cashers pretending to compete at the highest level. Schools like Northwestern, Wake Forest, etc have barely competed in their own conference, let alone for a national title. There needs to be a separation and a scheduling balance between three schools competing at the highest level. No more FCS games (IDGAF if they need the money, this isn't philanthropy) use an NFL-like model where you rotate playing each conference H&H on a two year basis. Ex:

SEC vs ACC 2025-2026
B1G vs B12 2025-2026
SEC vs B12 2027-2028
B1G vs ACC 2027-2028

Where it becomes problematic is there an imbalance again if it were to go B1G vs SEC. As much as we may hate it, everything would work better if this was all "right sized" between two conferences (B1G & SEC) and the ACC & Big 12 got cherry picked with whatever value is left and we aligned in a North/South setup and the national title was just B1G vs SEC ala AFC vs NFC.

Have no issue with them having a meaningful season, but that doesn't include automatic entry into a limited-field playoff

Why is that bad? A conference beating itself up shouldn't be a punishment when there is 12 spots available. You only say that because the sec is viewed so favorably. If uga beats texas the sec will have a 2 loss champion. That's equal to the amount of losses as alot of teams have. While I agree that were the superior conference you have to have some damn parity. We will get in but likely by way of avoiding the sec championship. A serious legit argument could be made that a team that lost to a .500 team arkansas shouldn't be in. Same for Notre dames loss to whatever random arse directional school they lost to. But that same team beat the sec 3rd place team. Making a playoff should have some meaning.

Funny that's not what everyone (including SEC fans whose team had no shot) was saying before this top 12 thing.

No they’re not.

A dual system of qualification is actually a good thing. There is an objective path for teams to qualify for the playoff by winning their conference.

There is also a subjective path by being one of the best at large teams.

THE PROBLEM is that the people who are making the decisions on the subjective path aren’t truly picking the “best” teams. Instead, they mostly order teams simply by record. Sure, there are some extreme cases where they have 1-loss Army (for example) well below 3-loss SEC teams. But the issue is they won’t accurately rank 1-loss Penn State and Indiana.

You’ve two people to thank. Sankey and the B10 guy.

1. Big 10 guy knew he’d have a 4 team league (OSU,PS,ORE, Mich )
2. Sankey knew with addition of OU and Texas, he’d have a 9 team league ( bama, lsu, Texas, OU, tenn, USC, Florida, Missouri, ole Miss).

Sankey stupidly agreed to this fiasco. Oh yea, let’s go to 9 game conference schedule and we can be assured the Texas Techs and Baylors will get in at 10-2 in their weak arse conferences.

3. Having conference champ get automatic berth would be fine if all conferences were equal. They are not.

The intent was to get the best teams to play. This is a false premise. Like the NFL, teams can have a bad day. This is why there are divisions, wildcards, playoffs etc. in the NFL, the cream rises to the top.

I have no interest watching an SMU or Miami play Oregon. The reason the PAC 12 is no more is because no one wanted to watch their crap brand of football.

As a fan, I’m fed up with ESPN, the committee and all the collective talking heads telling me who is the best team.

I want a real playoff and a commissioner of college football and a reigning in of nil and all the crap going on.

The innocence and beauty that was amateur college ball has died.
