Both were a bit of head-scratchers to me.
Not Kirby like, and almost cost us the game.

He was thinking Tech scoring 24 so 8 8 8 was the best way.
It was a mistake.

It was idiotic in my opinion. Said it then and saying it now.
Game should have never gone into overtime.

Agree, was he ask about it after the game?

Not taking the field goal was more out of character imo.

Two dumb coaching decisions that should’ve cost us the game. He blamed the 2 pt try on analytics. You don’t chase points, down by 10 early in the third. I don’t care what the #s say. 4th down was just being aggressive, but I still take the points there. Big momentum boost for GT after they stopped us.

If you commit to follow analytics, you follow them. I don’t think that is a dumb decision. It obviously didn’t work out this game, but that is not how the math works. We have to assume the math/stats that went into it had backing data.

CKS did a lot of talking afterwards about GT’s ability to eat the clock so I’m sure he had some idea of how many possessions would be reasonable to assume and points needed per possession. My guess is that if you’re behind they start figuring this out.
Personally I don’t think you start worrying about this until the second half at a minimum but I’m not a D1 HC so maybe that’s a thing.
On the FG he was thinking like the rest of that we need to set the tone and bully these guys. Turned out in hindsight to be wrong.

Curious what the data pool is. Is it every game in college football, including teams going for two against 2nd and 3rd stringers in a blowout? Im all for analytics when it comes to predicting tendencies and play calling, but those decisions I still want the coach to take in the overall context of the game and not just rely on numbers. That’s my opinion, which means squat. That being said, IN KIRBY WE TRUST!

I questioned why he did it, but I can also safely assume he wasn’t shooting from the hip on it. No idea how they get the stats and math to correlate to our situation.

I had no problem going for 2, I had a problem throwing a 2 yard backwards pass and expecting us to get 11 yards on the play.

I'm all for analytics, but maybe not following them blindly.
Sometimes when it just doesn't seem to add up, I question the route that Google Maps suggests, and actually end up saving time.

Has anyone seen a team get a two point conversion on three straight touchdowns?

Yep
Too early in the game to not be putting easy points on the scoreboard.

I get it but fewer possessions were on his mind

I think foregoing the FG really is overlooked. Believe Tech immediately scored their 2nd TD. I like taking the points
Momentum is hard to quantify but I like to think Tech doesn’t score if we get some momentum after that FG and it’s 10-3 at half.
Edit: looks like the next drive they missed their FG so my entire argument could be null

I believe the old Kirby would do that too.
The new and improved Kirby is doing things a little differently. Which is what surprised me. I get the feeling he's become slightly more aggressive.
