Over the last decade? I was going back through some of our old recruiting classes to see just how bad at recruiting we really are, and I realized a real killer is not only do we not get the most out of 3 stars with our past few coaches, but it seems most of our 4 stars are duds as well. Just take 2015 as a sample under Bielema. Cheyanne o Grady, will gragg, Austin Cantrell, Colton Jackson, Jalen Merrick, jamario bell, Ty story. These were all the 4 stars in that class and how many of them panned out? How about devwah Whaley? Anybody remember him? Our best player was some local 3 star kid that wasn’t very highly rated out of high school you might’ve heard of named Dre greenlaw. Although he was hurt much of his time on the hill. Point is, we’ve had really bad coaches that don’t know how to develop talent and Sam is no exception. Fire his arse

Next year we will have to compete in with Florida and lsu for coaches. We are setting ourselves up for failure by keeping the lame duck another year.

Sam was hired to not be Chad Morris. He’s doing that. Enjoy the liberty bowl and keep buying tickets.

He was, until he held out for more money and wanted a pay day, now he is judged like he is getting paid for.

LT just beat a 7-2 WKU today not sure that's a freebie these days but we'll see. Offense should score enough.

Ogrady is homeless and living in the streets of Fayetteville. Such a sad situation.

Not all 4* or even 5*'s that don't pan out are the coaches fault for not developing them.

I do know that Rogers QB Jeff Regan who is an Arkansas baseball commitment, he would be an asset on special teams.

That is something lacking on our punt and kickoff return.

Now do other programs. Texas, Bama, Georgia, florida and USC had lots of 4 and 5 stars that don’t pan out.

Almost as if recruiting isn’t a science and more of an art. And you can’t tell what’s in the kids heart. Most are just 4 and 5 stars because of size and speed. Not talent.

Nico was a 5 star that couldn’t throw a deep ball apparently, while other shorter quarterbacks could throw it deep. KJ was a 4 star because of size and speed not dedication or ability to read a defense.

I agree but do you not find it odd that we didn’t have a single hit in the entire class?

A little, but how many times have we seen a 3* over perform their rating as well.
It's a crap shoot, and especially today you don't need to rely too heavy on high school recruiting.

We had a few from down here who were very good high school players get scholarships for Arkansas and they found out that they weren’t the best like they were used to and apparently didn’t want to work to get better and came back home.

But the kids from Warren when Petrino was coach and Burks were the exception. Those kids were just good at any level. Something in the water I guess.

Jeez we all know a 3* can out perform. Or JJ Watt and Baker Mayfield being walk ons. But we miss on 4* is higher than most.

There has been 3 teams in the Nick Saban at Bama era that have won a national championship without having a top 3 class in the previous 3 years. Michigan last year and the two Clemson teams.

If imagine what you see here in recruiting site ranking wise is we take a lot more borderline 4 and 5* than bama. We're getting like the just barley a 4* or just barely a 5* most of the time compared to higher ranked more sure thing players.

Recruits wanted to play for Saban and he knew how to coach them up to the fullest potential. This is why they had a dynasty. If they were coached by a Brian Kelly then they would not be anything close to that level.

The Saban retirement, NIL and the portal finally brought them down to mortal level.

Alabama had three things that made them great. A head coach that knew how to recruit at a high level, he knew how to develop them at full potential and he had plenty of money from the war chest that was at an elite level long before NIL was a thing.
