Interesting comment from Pat Forde on Alabama and DeBoer.......

"My high school coach was Gary Barnett who took Northwestern to the Rose Bowl and Colorado to the Fiesta Bowl years later. We were extremely well coached in high school. That's why we won games. We were better coached than everybody else. He left to start his college career before my senior year. New coach comes in that was a very accomplished coach. He knew what he was doing. We kind of bought in and started off well. Won our first two games and we're ranked second in the state. And then we started losing and it just fell apart. "I'm not sure about his playcalling" and "Why are we doing that in practice". We thought we were bought in but when adversity came we weren't bought in. New guy replacing a legend and I get the feeling this might be the same thing. "DeBoer is good, but why are we doing it this way. We never did it that way. Nick would never let us do that." I just wonder if there is a splinter there between people meaning to do their best, but it's just not happening."
This kind of makes sense to me. DeBoer is obviously a great coach, but you lose to Vandy or struggle and it's gonna be natural for guys like a Malachi Moore and others who played for Saban for several years to question things he's doing differently.

Isn’t it up to the players to be as good as they can be? The standard was already there. A coach shouldn’t have to make you live up to it!

The best cultures are player led. Malachi Moore is being a leader and not questioning KDB.

Most first year coaches struggle a bit. I am not convinced the sky is falling.
It is like everyone has forgotten that at times over the last few years Alabama didn’t exactly look like a well oiled machine. And that was with arguably the greatest coach of all time who had been at Alabama 17 years.

Anyone other than Forde and this would have some credibility.

Kind of like losing to Louisiana Monroe.

but you lose to Vandy
You realize that Kirby lost to Vandy in his first season as head coach at Georgia right?

That makes sense. I figure that has to be some disconnect , but I still figure Bama ..on talent alone..would be top 12
This still isn't the biggest shocker ( so far ) of the last 18 yrs. ..I still don't understand how the 2010 team lost 3

Yep. A lot of penalties. A lot of mental errors. A lot of entitlement.
I noticed it slipping in at the end of the 2016 season. A lot of undisciplined play.
* Won a NC with a phenom QB the Dawgs didn't prepare for in 2017.
* 2020, we had the GOAT offense. Didn't need a great defense.
Seems we won those NC's by talent alone (and little discipline compared to the '15, '12, '11, '09 squads) even though the decline was well on.
That's how good Saban recruited and how well he could somehow keep them focused.

I believe that Deboer will be better off when some of Saban's recruits move on...

Yes, and Kirby had the same kind of roster as Alabama and Richt was right there in Saban's tier. Not equal, but close.

I don't know whether he's questioning him or not, but he flat out refused to do what he was told in front of millions. Not a good look.

Talent doesn't always equate to wins, when the talent is not developed and coached properly...
Welcome back down to earth, it sucks when you lose a great coach and replace them with the latest and greatest new model that sometimes just turns out to be a flash in the pan. Sometimes those coaches can turn out to be good though...It's a roll of the dice.
It's probably way too early to say with Alabama's new head coach if he will be good, or if he was just a flash in the pan at Washington.

Richt and the Georgia program were head and shoulders ahead of Vanderbilt. Kirby inherited a program coming off back to back 10 win seasons. Georgia was a borderline top 5 program. Most definitely a top 10 program.
And they lost to Vanderbilt in Kirby’s first year.
Kirby’s first year record of 8-5 was a step back from the 10 win seasons Georgia fans had grown accustomed to. There was a lot of rumbling among Georgia fans whether Kirby was the right guy or if Georgia should cut their losses and hire an established head coach. Some were actively calling for a new coach. Were you a Georgia fan back then? If so, you remember.

You've taken a sentence out of the context it was said in and focused on something completely different than the intended message. Focus.... maybe you've got the same problem as your team.

Milroe and the players that won't play hard for other team-mates need to go. Thats the best start to getting a better team culture. .
