Interestingly, LSU's defense has been noticeably better without Harold Perkins

First three games of the season (USC, Nicholls, South Carolina) with Perkins:

380 yards per game
27 points per game

Last three games (South Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas) without Perkins:

358 yards per game
15.3 points per game

Perkins was injured in the third quarter of the UCLA game, I didn't pull yardages but UCLA scored 17 points in the first half and 0 in the second half.

I heard that the DC was coming up with elaborate schemes to take full advantage of Perkins, and that hurt the defense. Without him, they could simplify things.

Is that accurate?

maybe so...

Also, maybe coach is now free to run his scheme, instead of trying to fit it to a guy who may not mesh well.

That kid has been so under utilized, it’s almost criminal.

I watched him play HS ball for years here in Cypress, and hated when he went to LSU. I thought he’d be a world beater by now.

He’s had some bad luck, that’s for sure. But I wish him the best.

Nah it’s a worn to death topic on the LSU board. Perk is a tweener whose camp insisted we turn him into an every down player.

The end result was scheming the entire defense around trying to make a speed rush specialist / safety work as a traditional linebacker.

I hate to say it because I got nothing but love for the kid, but his injury was a literal boon to that side of the ball & it was immediately obvious.

I don't know if there's a good way to utilize him, he doesn't really have a position.

A move to safety would probably be his best bet.

That’s a lot of money spent for nothing.

I think it’s more so a testament to how many things Perkins really struggled with. He is good coming off the edge and was excellent as a spy but he was poor in coverage and a complete liability against the run.

Weeks is the linebacker that they wanted Perkins to be. The coaching staff put a lot of effort into trying to get him there, but for one reason or 10, it didn’t happen.

We should have just rotated him at DE. Bring him in for obvious passing situations

Not really

Perkins was horrible against the run. And coaches probably wasted time and game plans trying to get him to be productive.

All those teams aren't ranked! How do you get so excited about beating unranked teams?

it seems to be more of a team/ unit now then individuals out there running around everybody seems to know their assignments better and players like Burns and Sage Ryan playing night and day better too

and whit weeks reminds me of thelinebacker Danny Bateman in that movie The Replacements.

Could not disagree more and people saying this needs their heads examined.
Dude is a beast and in my opinion, the early scheme did not show his potential.
Now that we have tuned the defense , could you imagine having him in there somewhere where he is comfortable.
He'll be a wrecking ball when he gets back and can't wait.
