I don't know if there are enough decent college teams to do it, but at this point it makes more sense to literally just affiliate 32 of them to NFL teams and make it a full-blown minor league system. There is nothing "amateur" about collegiate athletics now.

Do that and pretty soon those six teams will be the only ones left playing major league college football. At some point everyone has to stop and realize that "gimme gimme gimme mine mine mine" isn't always the best policy.

Also sports are cylindrical, Bama is on top now but it won't always be that way. You'd want this when Bama is back near the bottom?

havent we already seen this model. i think they called it the big 12 when in actuality it was the big 2, texas and oklahoma. we know how that went.

Terrible idea.
Just look at some of the European leagues.
La Liga season starts and only 2.5 teams have a chance to win it.
Barcelona and Madrid get like 65% of TV money for the entire league.
It is short sighted and bad for overall health of the sport.

Real competition is the key to lasting success. Most people don't enjoy watching a superior team beat up on a lesser opponent. Vandy beating Alabama was probably good for the conference and game. Look at what Texas did to the Southwest Conference and to a lesser extend the Big 12. Initially the Southwest conference was very competitively until Texas go greedy and hogged all the top players. Texas single handedly killed the Southwest Conference. In the Big 12 they insisted on their own network and not a conference network. That probably drove Nebraska out. Without Oklahoma the Big 12 would not have lasted as long as it did. Texas greed cannot be underestimate. They are back and will try to control the SEC. Hopefully the SEC is strong enough to prevent this.

People throw the term, “It’s a business,” a lot but that’s really a misleading comment.
College athletics are specifically a nonprofit business. They exist to serve a charitable mission. Maximizing revenue is not that charitable mission.
This isn’t a private entity where an owner is taking a personal financial risk to generate a return. These are administrators appointed to act in the best interest of the University who are just acting in their self interest.
Annual revenue for UA’s athletic department from 2013 to 2022 grew by $61M. During that same period scholarship expenses increased by only $5M.
If less than 10% of the revenue is going to scholarships, what mission do these departments serve that warrants tax-exempt status?

NCAA used to have laws that were much more rhombus than they are now. They don't cover nearly as much ground as they used to

Then we'd be a power bottom.
