Prayers to everyone down there. My son is a knuckle head lives in Tampa and waiting until tomorrow to make a decision.

Dang. I am a big time weather nerd, this one’s gonna wreck Tampa by all estimates. It’s got 200 mph gusts. You get caught in the eyewall winds, it will be like being in an EF4 tornado. Not to mention the unstoppable wall of water. Why take a chance and regret later?

Not sure why anyone on the western side of Florida wouldn’t be up in South Georgia or Dothan by midnight tonight. I personally would get to Macon or Montgomery but that’s just me.

Depends on where he lives in Tampa. if South Tampa where it floods with a normal rain...yeah probably but if it is inland probably not. We are located in between the river and the bay plus at the end of the street goes into part of the gulf. But we are about 23-28 ft above sea level. Have hurricane windows, just went through 120+ winds and have been in the eye of a couple of others in the past...the biggest problem will be down trees & power unless you are close to the coast and susceptible to the surge.
We have been without power for a week at different times during hurricanes.
Also with leaving you think it is quick but put that many people on the interstate and it slows to a grind quickly. Even with non weather events 75 can become a standstill and gas may be hard to find....plus finding places to stay might be tough. Friends who are leaving are finding inflated prices up at the villages.

I am trying to make the decision this morning to go or not. I am leaning towards staying. If we left, we would head to Ft Lauderdale.
I have a new concrete block home with storm shutters, I live in a pasture with no trees over 15 feet tall. I am in flood zone E and do not seem to be close to where the surge could get close to. I have a generator, gas and food. We are packed and could bolt south east if need be today.
We did not get any rain yesteday and it doesnt look like we will get a lot today. We are not forecasted to get anything close to the rainfall as Debby so I hope our ponds will be OK.

I’ve been through a couple of direct hits, once in Bham and once in Auburn. Both well inland. I can’t imagine being on the coast for a direct hit. No thanks.

Riding out a storm sucks, evacuating too late sucks too. I've done both. I would think if you weren't on the road by 0600 this morning, you might want to batten down the hatches and stay. Unless you're in the storm surge affected areas, then you need to hope you can get out.
I've heard traffic is deadlocked and no gas to be had.
I'm in middle GA if someone gets in a bind.

I think you should be ok. I am planning on staying. You know where I live and we are supposedly in evac zones. However, I am about 20-30 ft above sea level and the surge would have to hit in certain ways to get to me. I am more worried about neighbors trees and the loss of power for a week or so. Rode them out before and have been in the eye back in 2004 when it went overhead and then offshore...did some tree damage here. Last storm had the neighbors roof from their shed fly into my yard. Wife and I have a gen. My sons house is in north county so one of us should have power.

Just got some a cellphone signal strong enough to use a hotspot.
We got it bad in Augusta from Helene (Not me personally, just lost a front porch). Still no power or water for some, Internet isn't projected to back back on for another couple of weeks.
If you're in Fla, I know you all are better prepared, but I would play it safe right now. These storms are no joke, lineman are already stretched super then so it might take even longer for you to get power, plus a bunch of resources we're just used up from Helene. It can't hurt to be safe.

Depends on that Fema money lol. Might be saveable, but might just build a new one all together. No tree's through the home is always a win though.

It looks like us in NE Florida are going to get lucky with this one, and it’s going to stay south of us for the most part. I’ll be riding it out and working from home unless my power goes out again.
