Freeze said the 4th and 1 was a running play to Hunter. Thorne went “off script” and made it a RPO.
Again
Why doesn’t Hugh use that excuse to bench him indefinitely and start our younger guys and give them experience. Season is a wash now, being the only guaranteed win is ULM.
I would..

With Thorne at QB, I don't think any win is guaranteed.

So far I have seen a lot of bleeding hearts that cannot do anything but complain about Freeze and the Freeze hire but when pressed "oh no, I dont want to fire him."
I am about to start asking more questions such as where do they do that at? Who here still has a man card? Why in the world does our board act like a school of teenage bipolar girls about the smallest mistake as if Freeze is beneath you, and so on.

Oh FFS there was a DL who would have taken the handoff if he tried it, the friggin guy was about to wrap up cowboy and he hadnt even gotten the ball.
And there were two more right behind him.
Even the announcers were bitching about Freeze and how uncalled for it was to chew out Thorne for an ill conceived play call.

From that formation?

No one truly understands that 4th and 1, so we need to get off Thorne's back. I'm not a huge fan of his, but you have to ask - why was he put in that position to begin with?
Why was our staff not giving him the looks in practice?
Why isn't he coached to NOT pull the ball when x or y happens?
Cause for concern. In two or three years, will Walker or Deuce be in the same spot?
Hopefully not as these guys are coming out of HS and will have more time with the staff.

73 made a lot of mistakes, but it seemed like the overwhelming number of them occurred in passing situations, and in running situations he made a few good blocks.
It makes me wonder if the run/pass option is properly integrated into the offensive line. Do they really know what the plays are? If's obvious Thorne doesn't understand where the pressure is coming from on pass plays, does the OL really know what they are supposed to do?
Also, at this point, why not just give Hunter/Ausin/Cobb 40 touches and don't put the game inthe QB's hand again this year?

I remember a presser where Hugh basically said he expects Payton to see what he sees as the QB. I believe he mentioned he expected Payton to make changes at the LOS. If he expects that, and Thorne screwed it up then that is a coaching moment behind closed doors. Honest screwup and the play didnt work. 4th and 1 plays can easily backfire. Who here thought the 4th and 1 bomb by Diego was a great play call. I know we didnt like a 3rd and two play call where Thorne threw it deep one game.
On the flip side I agree with the masses. If he is changing plays and he isn't supposed to then bench him. But I doubt this is the case. So Freeze needs to let our talent play loose again.

The 4th and 1 call in the vandy bama game was awesome. I've never seen a QB bait a defense to that extent. The deep men bit, Diego is remains calm and throws the strike at the last second. It was beautiful. I cannot remember us ever making plays like that in the face of adversity. Not in the last decade at least.

If I am not mistaken Jason Campbell once nailed a 4th and short bomb.

Really? Auburn is 2-4. Overall & the doormat of the SEC. Dead last. 0-3. Auburn is looking up at everyone.
But go ahead and play fake keyboard warrior macho man. For whatever good it does.

Nobody said it would be easy up front. Is there an alternative to this, and if so, who!
Man up!

Fandoms are a mix of sunshine pumpers to doomers. There were a handful predicting 5-0 before Athens. And I’m certain they had their caveats saying that ‘everything had to fall into place’.
But seldom does that ever happen. It takes a really good team to overcome four, five turnovers in a game.
This is not that team.
Even with zero turnovers, and now six games under their belt for Hugh’s second season, there still are glaring mental mistakes being made. On and off the field.

Pavia is a dog. He wants the ball in his hand with the game on the line. He has that killer in him. The eye of the Tiger. Like him or not, Stetson Bennett was the same way.
Thorne has some skills and he plays hard but just doesn’t have that.
