Kirby Smart was asked about his program's struggles against Alabama during his postgame presser Saturday, and his explanation was straightforward.

"What’s everybody else’s record against them? Anybody got one better than 1-6?” Smart said. “That’s played them six times? I don’t think so.

To be fair, it was a pretty big 1. And, all but one that I recall have been very competitive with generally higher stakes.

What a fricking idiot. I don’t think Kirby is quite as smart as he thinks he is.

He’s a great recruiter and learned a ton from Saban, but he’s not the smartest guy I’ve seen roaming the sidelines.

Kirby's first game against Alabama was January 8th 2018.

In that time span no coach has 2 wins against Alabama. LSU is the only program program with 2 wins at 2-4.

I believe Spurrier and Meyer were both 1-1 vs Saban at Bama. Both big wins for each program.

Kirby was hired in 2015. You’re saying because he sucked in 2016 (8-5) and avoided Saban every year either team was down we shouldn’t count it against him, versus Gus who had to play Alabama every single season?

Spurrier was 1-1 at USCe. Meyer was 2-2 counting Florida and OSU .

I have a ton of respect for Kirby as a coach. His 2H gameplan was absolutely brilliant and his run the last few years is outstanding.

But if Bama doesn’t have that playing on a loop when recruits walk in the door for a visit it’s a huge missed opportunity.

I honestly believe that no other coach could out coach Saban more than Gus could. Saban had a hard time figuring out how to deal and stop the shite show that Malzahn threw at him. But then I ask myself what does that say about Saban, Gus and myself. Am I the only one that thought this?

And did alright in the 2014 Iron Bowl. A few better defensive adjustments that game, and ole Gus would have been .500 against Saban.

At least we have Freeze and his recruits now!

Edit - just realized Freeze is a “frick them trees” throw away from being .500 as well.

Bama blew them out in 2020 and 2021

Was on our way to do it again until we opted to make little to no adjustments and try to ride a lead to the W. Ultimately won but should’ve been a lot more convincing

I'm guessing the hope that Bama without Saban was what kept everyone from being 100% bullish on Georgia.

But after this past weekend, I know it has to be a given that Bama is still 1A and Georgia is 1B.

Still, as you suggested, this should be hammered home to new recruits. Bama is THE destination. Georgia is the B team. And the rest of the country is fallback when you get rejected.

Malzahn just threw shite at the wall to see how much would stick. That approach works great against well disciplined and coached teams. It didn't work for shite against the 1B level teams.

I watched this live and it really isn’t a big deal. Sure he wasn’t 100% factually accurate in a live response, but all be did was push back against some dweeb journalist, while defending himself and his program a little bit, all while being very complimentary of another program. Nothing to see here, move on.

he has a finance degree from a top ~30 public university, I'd say he's probably not an idiot.

He made an off the cuff remark in a press conference that he probably gave zero thought to before or after and we're sitting here 5 days later dissecting it. But yeah, he's real dumb.

I mean honestly, just based purely on intelligence or IQ scores he likely is one of the higher ones. I'm not claiming he's some kind of genius but I mean..have you seen some of the other coaches out there?
