Real assessment of UGA football

This is the reality. Since Kirby Smart has been the head coach of Georgia, Georgia has not beaten a legit sec team. If you look back, the last time Georgia beat a legit sec team was LSU in the 2005 seccg. They have benefited from a nonsense sec east. It makes me wonder if LSU was in the East, how many seccg appearances/playoff appearances/championships (SEC or NC) they would have had.

They’re damn good. But definitely have not had a clear second best team in the former SEC East his first 8 seasons. Won’t matter now though.

I mean, they're really good, and I don't think it's particularly accurate to say they haven't beaten a good SEC team under Kirby. But yes, they have benefitted greatly from the East being total shite so that their somewhat frequent "off" games usually come against teams like Kentucky, South Carolina, Mizzou, or Vandy that can't go toe to toe with them in pure talent.

You are right. It will not matter and I do not think uga will be winning as much because they will be playing more teams outside of the sec east. I also believe that Tennessee is a rising program.

If they’re not careful TN will be the new guard in the old guard of the SEC east or what was the sec east. I am really curious about how the schedules will move forward after next year.

Can you find me a legit sec win? Everytime they have faced a good healthy, sec team they have lost. Bama 17,18, 20, 21, 23, 24 LSU 19. UF 2020.

To be fair, most programs haven't been able to consistently beat Alabama but UGA has handled everyone else they've played, no matter the division. They beat the shite out an LSU team that beat us in 2022.
I'm still salty about the Metchie and Williams-less rematch and will never get over that. However, injures are part of the game and like Saban said, "they kicked our arse in the fourth quarter."
All I'm saying is regardless, there's no denying UGA is still a top program and few, if any, would have the success that Kirby is having there. And they will continue to be our biggest threat unless we fall off of the map before they do.

They've beaten UTk like a drum the last few years, killed OM last year, LSU in Atlanta a couple of years ago, and a pretty good Arkansas team a few years back before the wheels came off that program. That's just off the top of my head. If your definition of a good team is a serious title contender then no they really haven't gotten over that hump in conference play, but that's almost entirely because of us. They've beaten some pretty solid teams though. Just not as many as we had to in the West.

I don't believe there is any doubt that with Metchie & Williams, Alabama sweeps Georgia that year. That Alabama offense was a matchup nightmare for that defense.
In the NCG, Alabama had receivers running open and Young was hitting the receivers in the hands, they just kept dropping the ball.
I do not believe Alabama would have beaten Georgia in 2022 had they played in the SEC Championship Game. Alabama didn't have the receivers to beat Georgia.

You don’t have to a special team to be good.
Yes, Bama has Georgia’s number but UGA has beaten plenty of very good teams, SEC or not. UGA has fielded several extremely good teams since Kirby’s been there.

I mean, I thought 'Bama would get rocked by them in the '21 and '23 SEC title games based on how the Iron Bowls went, and the opposite happened.
Saban just had a mental edge over Kirby, and Bryce was much healthier by the end of that season after his shoulder injury. We saw that in the Iron Bowl and KState game. Only point is I'll never count 'Bama out against any of Kirby's teams again.

Georgia has a tough schedule this year. They may lose another game but the program is solid, Kirby is doing a good job. I get what you are saying though about past schedules, but you play who is front of you.

There have been few legit SEC teams in the last half decade that weren’t named Alabama or UGA.

C'mon man. Georgia has been on an incredible run. They have been a legit top 3 program since Kirby got there - its not even debatable.

Been saying the same for years.
That cupcake schedule through the east was very similar to Clemsons run.

Correct. You don't win 42 straight regular season games by just being good. In comparison, Saban lost a regular season game in 15 of 17 years.

I do not consider OM a legit team. Kiffin is a good coach. He can recruit and knows how to work the portal but there is a lack of maturity with Kiffin that does not allow them to ascend.
Also that UT @uga game in 2022....it was their first time being number 1 and they were on the road. They were not ready for the lights. Same thing happened to uga in 2017 when they went to the barn.
The 2022 LSU team was not legit. They beat bama at home and it is tough to be LSU at home at night.
SEC east teams do not have the home field advantages west teams do. LSU at death valley at night time, Kyle Field, the barn when bama plays. Only exception was bama on the road against UT in 2022. Lot of pressure on bama to win 16 in a row on the road.

With Clemson, the schedule did not matter. They were that good. They had the nfl talent at qb, rb, wr, dline.

Man this team got smacked around like Tina Turner for an entire half. They turned the ball over a whopping 4 times, went on to convert 4th downs like a frickin' boss and totally regained their composure.
That's a badass football team and in someways better than Alabama. Could Alabama have such a disaster of a first half and then turn around and push Georgia to the wall like that? Maybe, I don’t know. But what I do know is Georgia sure as shite did.

Just under Kirby, they've beaten the following teams. None of those were legit?
2023 #9 Ole Miss
2023 #8 Missouri
2022 #6Tennessee
2021 #1 Alabama
2019 #6 UF
2018 #6 UF
2018 #11 UK
2017 #10 AU
2013 #4 USC
2012 #9 UF
2006 #8 AU
Just because a team isn't named Bama, it doesn't mean they're not legit.
