I feel like we should leave state alone

Mike's death really destroyed the program for the immediate future. It's gonna be a long climb.

Their D Line nearly killed the Moo U QB. I wish LSU’s line played like that.

Not sure if Lebby can get them out of the hole with the new world of CFB, and actually compete in the SEC. Their roster has G5 talent and the best of that will probably be gone and poached by bigger programs by the end of this season. Leach’s death and Arnett set State back to unimaginable areas.

Kiffin having Ole Miss rolling in-state doesn’t help either. Hate to be drastic, but it might be the beginning of the end for State.

I think Toledo is considered one of the top MAC programs (if not *the* top), for what it’s worth. MAC teams CAN be dangerous.

Toledo is often called the Cradle of Coaches because of all the talented HC's that have come out of there, including Nick Saban. Yes, certain MAC teams have often been quite good. I believe this Toledo team won 10 games last year.

As for State, yes, I believe Mike Leach's death was a gut punch.

I believe Gary Pinkel left Toledo for Mizzou and I think Toledo beat Mizzou while Pinkel was the HC at Mizzou.

Not to talk bad about the late great Mike Leach but they were going to fall off if Leach was still the coach. He was living off upperclassmen with Covid years. He was not recruiting at all. Arnett gets blamed and Lebby will get blamed but Leach did not have that program in a good state when he died. Love the man, but to act like his death is the reason they are bad is letting a lot of people in Starkville off the hook.

They continually made reactionary hires to what was happening in Oxford and this is what the result of that was. It is shocking how bad they are. They have no but to blame but themselves.

I thought hiring a coordinator as a first time HC and a DC that's never been a DC before a mistake.

We're an SEC school and should be able to hire proven coaches.

What I'm seeing on the field is a complete lack of effort from the players.

In the Croom years we sucked but the players did their best just got out talented by the other team.

Lebby has 3 years to figure it out and right now I'd replace the entire defensive staff.

It's embarrassing I see G5 teams that look better coached and players that perform better than what we have.

Mike Leach seemed to always have the team prepared for games though.

I'm questioning our coaching hire base on player effort and lack of preparation. We have some good paid mercenaries on offense but I bet they bail after this season.

This is true. Leach, God love him and rest his soul, was going the way of Saban regarding keeping up with the times.

Any State alumn/ donor knows where the bullshite starts and ends for who's to blame for current hires: John Cohen. He set the AD back for a decade with his insistence that he was the smartest guy in the room, his refusal to fundraise, and completely ignoring NIL. Mark Keenum is also to blame. Sure, he's got connections and is a consummate bureaucrat (I won't expound on how ineffective they are), but he's a common denominator throughout it all, and he's not exactly knocking it out of the ballpark on the academic side either.

This is a fairytale you've made up in your mind. I regret to inform you that the overwhelming majority of the Mississippi State fanbase is nothing like the chuds at elitedawgs and other online homer message boards. State is worried about State.

This, however, is true.

Toledo had a major rehaul on O and D this offseason because of graduation and transfers.

That being said, they have been a top MAC team due to solid coaching and a nice recruiting footprint.

I didn't know what to really expect this year against MSU and in truth they may have played a bit up and caught MSU off guard, but it will be Toledo and Bowling Green facing off for the division crown in their side of the MAC.

Also, I would recommend that A&M not sleep on BG, as they have enough of an offense to make the game at least interesting next week.

In fairness to Mike, his good teams were always built on upperclassmen and building to the air raid. On paper they never had great talent, but he could coach them to 7-8 wins regularly which should be the expectation at State.

Toledo is 3-0 but I actually don’t think so. Last week Toledo had a 4 quarter battle with a terrible UMASS team, won 38-23.

Toledo may win 9 games in the MAC but no SEC has any business getting blown out to them at home

So Toledo beat State worse than they beat Umass. That is awful
