How good of an on-field coach is he? Seems like a great recruiter but I wonder how much emphasis he’s putting on sheer effort every play.
Murray’s talk with Mike Giddens, he was pointing out how lazy the receiver routs were and how receivers were loafing on plays when they knew they weren’t getting the ball. I wonder if Freeze got with Davis and told him to light up the receiving corps asses for lazily running routes as well.

It is crazy that we are seeing some of this rear it's head AGAIN. This is like the third year in a row lazy WR play has been called out.
I don't really know how you address it in this new cfb world either. You start riding them, they transfer. You let it continue, that culture infects other parts of the program. Just sucks.

Brother we are on about year 10 of lazy WR play.
As for Davis, as long as he keeps bringing in elite talent I’m good with him staying on. If after 3 or 4 years of bringing on elite guys we are still seeing a poor product then we can revisit this.

Sorry but that’s what u get when the young guys are the main group. It’ll take some time for them to understand SEC speed on every down

I mean but it wasn’t really that much the young guys. If you look at snaps at WR, the only young guy that got any meaningful snaps was Cam.

"Everybody sucks except for Hugh Freeze! Only the coaches that HE HIRES suck!"

Asking them to run is too much????
Great players put themselves in a position to succeed more so than the circus catches.
Alabama in the playoff game, Mac Jones comes to the line and the middle backer is showing blitz. He looks down the line to DeVonta Smith who is looking at him, then visibly turns his head so Matt can see him look at the backer, and then back to Mac.
Ball snaps, backer comes, and DeVonta runs a crossing route RIGHT where the backer should have been, granted Mac had to throw it around the backer so DeVonta caught a bullet pass, on his lower hip in stride and took it to the house. Auburn did the same thing last Sat, it bounced off his hands (cause it was ooooh tooo hard for him) and was int.
Later in the same game, which is well in hand, DeVonta, has had a game for the ages and a Heisman in his back pocket. Menche catches a deep pass and this fricking crimson gazelle comes flying past him to throw a block on the DB 30 yards downfield....your boy DeVonta.
Yes it matters when they half arse run a route, the safeties know its not coming his way and can clamp on the other side. So they jump a route, its an int. and you blame the QB.

Go look at the Freeze philosophy on running routes. Now if they were supposed to be a target then yeah run good routes. Our RBs don't run good routes. But if you are off as a WR then Freeze didn't expect you to run 100% if you weren't an option. He said that at a couple of points in his career.

When Freeze says "I dont expect them to run 60 or 70 plays" he is saying they will rotate.
No coach would say he does not expect his receivers to run their routes full speed. If they did the whole defensive backfield would just converge on the one guy running a full speed route.
Attach some quotes and Ill retract.

Easy. He isn’t great… No experience, no coaching tree, his mentor was essentially Malzahn.
Great recruiter tho
