24 of Nussmeier's 37 passes were 9 yards or shorter target depth - gameplan or QB choice?

- Behind LOS : 2/3, 12 yards, 4.0 YPA, 0 TD/0 INT
- 0-9 yards : 20/21, 152 yards, 7.2 YPA, 1 TD/0 INT
- 10+ yards : 7/13, 140 yards, 10.8 YPA, 1 TD/1 INT
Do you guys think this was part of the gameplan or Nuss just didn't quite trust his reads down the field? If it was #2, are you surprised that Sloan didn't force the issue some with max protect deep shots?

With how much of a gun slinger he’s been in the past, I have to think it was intentional by the coaches. CBK even said in the pregame Nuss needed to let the game come to him which I took as minimize risks. I think he was neutered. We have a few easy wins to reignite the flame…

Probably both.
They've been on Nuss about not taking unnecessary chances with the ball.
USC was playing with two high safeties the majority of the game.
LSU's two legitimate deep threat receivers were out.

Agree, that was my thought. 13.2% of his passes were 20+ yards (deep) on Sunday compared to 23.1% last year (mostly vs Wisconsin). I do think USC was forcing underneath stuff quite a bit and trying to force LSU to go on long drives and then convert in the red zone, but I kept expecting some deep shots and they just never came.

Has to be game plan, in his start against Wisconsin in the bowl game he went downfield and was MVP, he threw for 300 yards in a half vs uga. If wish I could say it was Nuss’s decisions cause it would at least give me an excuse to convince myself Kelly is not a Senile retard

It’s crazy how our fans wanna point the finger at everyone but Kelly, it’s either a talent issue, or he needs four years, or a players fault. Makes the few of us who can look at our team with a Un-bias eye look fricking retarded. In this day and age, 4 year rebuilds are long gone with the transfer portal. And ultimately, Kelly is the captain of the ship, so if your personal and assistants suck, that’s on you. You wanna get paid like your an elite coach, well it comes with the territory. I don’t see any other powerhouse schools in the Sec blaming players or talent….

Had to be coaches. I was expecting him to be launching balls left and right

It’s 100% coaches, l love My team to death but this non sense of not holding our coach accountable cause we are under some illusion that we are better than we are is ridiculous.its like we think people are laughing with us, but they are really laughing at us.

We know George. If I ever have to see another 6 yard out pass when we need 8, I'm jumping out the window.

I think it was part of some game plan to get him comfortable and Hilton (speedster) was out with injury. But coaches should have had him throwing the second half like they did the first half of the game. Aside from WAY to many penalties the coaches crapped the bed on this second half game plan.... hate to see it. But not disgruntled by the team overall. They showed good potential.

Definitely not an LSU alter.

It looked like they were running a good bit of Kelly’s offense from ND.
Have to wonder if he set it aside for Daniels then went right back to the well when he had a guy who fit his system.

Think some of this was Kelly protecting the defense not wanting to take the chance the offense would put them in a bad spot. Worst thing that could have happened is for USC to put up a lot of points and running up and down the field. At least the defense now has something to grow on. It was an improvement from the last two years

He definitely doesn't have one of those.

I was wondering about this. My guess is that his primary reads were mostly the quick out routes that we saw. I think Kelly expected to be able to run the ball a whole lot better than what actually happened.
