Really long article from ESPN, so I’ll summarize.

Yes, it is.

I didn't read the article but the situations aren't comparable at all in my opinion. Nebraska was cut off from the state of Texas, their lifeblood, that was their biggest downfall.

That's not going to happen to Oklahoma, they are just as close to DFW as Texas/A&M, and they recruit DFW very well.

As much as I would love for OU to fall apart as a football program, it's just not going to happen.

They weren’t as good as Nebraska historically but they’ll fall similarly. They don’t have the partial qualifier issue, but their days of winning one big game to win the conference are over.

Probably not.

Okie is geographically in a decent location to pull talent from TX, MO, AR, LA and they have only had one losing season in 25 years....they will be fine. Nebraska use to pull good talent from MO and TX, they lost that when the went to the BIG 10

I think they don't understand the dynamic of OU recruiting Texas players and the rivalry of Texas vs OU.

Nebraska never had that. They did have a huge rivalry with OU, playing them every year on Thanksgiving at one time, but they lost that Thanksgiving game when OU and Nebraska joined the Big 12. That was one of the daggers to the heart of Nebraska. One of the others was Texas literally owned them in the Big 12 in football...The winning record was very lopsided towarded Texas. And, the last but biggest thing that took Nebraska down was they could not recruit partial qualifiers any longer because of the academic rules for sports in the Big 12, and eventually all of College football.

You have to remember that Nebraska was only a powerhouse because they were the first college team to hire a real strength and conditioning coach before college teams even considered that. They took advantage of being ahead of the game on that, and recruiting partial qualifiers...

Still, Riley's unexpected departure sowed a narrative that he didn't believe in OU's ability to compete where "It Just Means More." Pundits and opposing fan bases since have piled on with skepticism, as the Sooners prepared for their SEC debut. One national radio host recently suggested that the Sooners could go the way of Nebraska -- and completely disappear as a power on the way to irrelevance in the SEC.

No the narrative was that Riley was running away from the SEC which is accurate, because HE couldn't compete.

And the "one national radio host" mentioned above is Colin Cowherd, USC fanboi and Riley fluffer.

Will such a rise in competition prove the doubters right and transform the Sooners from conference contender to conference afterthought?

Or, can OU turn its SEC membership into an asset -- and emerge as strong as ever?

The early signs out of Norman suggest the latter to be possible. The Sooners have set a fundraising record. They've already nearly doubled their football support staff. But, most crucially, they've surged on the recruiting trail, especially along the offensive and defensive lines, where SEC titles are determined.

This doesn't say OU is going to be the next Nebraska, aggot. It says the opposite. You're relying on nobody reading the article to sow your own narrative.

Good try aggot.....

Osborne pinned Nebraska's dramatic fall on a multitude of factors, most notably a failure to adjust to a style of play fit for winning in the Big Ten, the loss of a key recruiting base in Texas, coaching instability and fan impatience.

Well no shite....

quote:

Between 2007 to 2009, Nebraska also signed 24 recruits from the state of Texas, including star running back Rex Burkhead, who played 10 years in the NFL. But the Texas pipeline dried up, damaging Nebraska's overall talent level.

"Situated where we are in the middle of the country, there's a tendency to go everywhere," Osborne said. "But once we left the Big 12, I think it did hurt our recruiting in Texas to some degree."

Straight from the horse's mouth.

No. Nebraska is a cautionary tale to the entire SEC. Here Texas comes.

I’ve been hearing this on here for like 10 years. First it was A&M was going to take all the top Texas talent since they were in the sec. OU still out recruits them. Now it’s the sec move and OU is still pulling in 5 star DL and OL, has a 5 star QB and a loaded defense, with 3-5 probable AAs. If BV can coach at all OU should win 9-11 games this year. Just buckle up.
