Compare A&M to Kentucky the last 10 years

The schedule Gods have only allowed us to play once, that was an overtime loss for the Cats in College Station. I get a kick out of A&M fans thinking Stoops was beneath them and somehow Mike Elko is the savior. Take away the Manziel year and UK has steadily equaled or outperformed them with far less resources.

So you wanted us to hire your coach? We are damned for not hiring him, damned if we did. What do you want people to say? That Elko will fail bc we didn’t fire Stoops? The football gods don’t take spite into consideration, that’s bad karma. The football gods don’t have favorites. The energy you put out is what comes back.

Stoops would've been thrilled to take the A&M job because of how much he hates dealing with NIL (I don't blame him - the whole thing is killing college football)...so being at a place where the money is easier to come by without spending all your time begging for it...I'm sure that sounded quite appealing to him.
I'm a huge UK fan but also a realist. It's going to be tough for us to stay competitive (and by that I mean in the mid-tier pest way we've been, not SEC title competitive). It will take lots of energy and dedication from the coaches to keep it going and I'm not sure how much longer Stoops wants to deal with it in Lexington. The NCAA bullshite about the fake jobs (as if that crap doesn't happen everywhere) didn't help.

You guys lost that game in OT bc your QB Terry? couldn’t throw, and we knew we just had to stop Benny and the QB runs to put it away. Kentucky is like us, always missing one Ingredient on offense to make that unit above average.

Well, we've also had a few select years with an excellent offense but no defense (like with Couch, Lorenzen and Woodson).
But during the Stoops era / while A&M has been in the league (same thing) yeah the offense has been limited. Especially the passing game. Stoops plays scared ball at times and it's a source of great frustration. I appreciate what he's done for a historically bad program (2021 vacation aside - that hurts his legacy and ours as a program) but he has his own clear limitations as a coach.

Dunno. About even I guess. Advantage A&M, albeit a very small one.

The defense should be in good hands. Can the offense live up to their potential is the question.

Would probably be a very good team in past years but now with increased talent/teams in the SEC, it will be even more difficult for A&M to rise above mid-pack. Even more so for Kentucky esp with no east/west divisions.

None of that is accurate, Stoops has done a great job at UK.
It’s just personal preference for Elko. Especially since he was at A&M prior to going to Duke.

Manziel Heisman year was 2012 so the last ten seasons (2014-2023) are as follows overall:
Texas A&M: (77-48) .616
Kentucky: (64-49) .566
Texas A&M: (77-48) .616
Kentucky: (64-49) .566

They both have as many SEC titles in football as a dead man.

That's just it. Stoops has to do it with fewer resources and guess what, he hasn't made it to Atlanta when Missouri has been there twice and South Carolina as well. They are dealing with the same resource issues. If Stoops was really offered the job he blew it. TAMU has the facilities and spends the money if you have the vision and talent to take advantage of it. That kind of opportunity seldom comes along twice.

Uga vs bama
uf vs lsu
Tenn vs auburn
Mizzou vs ole miss
Vandy vs arky
I didn’t include usce or miss st bc it’s a common opponent but over the last ten years I would say bama was a little tougher than uga but it’s a wash you’re not beating either, lsu was tougher than Florida, auburn a little tougher than tenn but I kinda got that one as a wash too they’ve both had good and not so good teams, mizz/miss push, arky is much better than vandy. I’d say you have an argument that atm could have been 5-10 games better with Kentuckys schedule over that stretch.

Stoops scheduled 3 cupcakes out of conference and caught the Ville in a decline. Add in Vandy, UofSC and that’s 6 wins most years. In a great year they beat Florida and Mizzou to get to 9-10 wins. But that’s rare.
Stoops is a career 500 coach and while that’s the ceiling for UK, TAMU wants more. They were right to pass on him.

I thought they were basically going to give him a contract and then A&M boosters rioted behind the scenes so they backed out. Stoops wanted the job.

Word behind the scenes was that Bjork wanted to give Stoops the job and made that decision without consulting anyone including the president of A&M. He went a little renegade, which is probably the reason he was asked to find another job.
