Why would Cal leave Ky and a 33 mil buyout and a lifetime job as ambassador for the school in order to take a 5 year job at about the amount of that buyout.
I would have stayed at Ky and done a lot of bass fishing.

Tired of putting up with delusional fans. Kentucky fans are the Bama fans of basketball.

Kentucky was failing at NIL and one of the last to get a collective going. Their goal was 2.5 mil and we doubled it just in his contract.

His ego wouldn't let him think he was almost fired. It's a good change for both.

Same with you. You should probably donate a few bucks to your basketball program

I suspect UK's AD was going to force him to make some changes or next year would have been his last with similar results. His ego wouldn't allow that.

Arky fans are delusional too. Slightly lower expectations than UK fans, sure, but maybe half the resources

He is friends with the Tyson family. Fresh start from a fan base and NIL collective he alienated to get away.
He was told that he had 1 more year to get shite "right". Based on next year's weak recruiting class (even thought it's rated high), it was going to be more of the same.
He and the AD hated each other.
He and Stoops hated each other.
He and Administration in general didn't get along.
This is actually good for all involved. Arky will get the swaggy Cal with loads of NIL money to flash around, and UK gets someone that they can get reinvigorated about and bring back $$$ folks Cal alienated.
It's a win-win. That's as close to honest as I can post.

You can't think like a regular guy
Coaches are sociopaths. I'm sure Cal didn't want his career to end with a mutual parting from UK everyone knew was a termination.

It’s a good question, though.
The 33 mil might get knock-down-negotiated to 15 mil. But still, why not get asked to leave and gain payout?

Well, Mike White did the same thing a couple of years ago when he bolted for UGA. Sometimes it's better for your resume to leave before you're fired. And at the end of the day people like to be appreciated.

And both fan bases are still better than the trashy corndog fanbase.

There is a growing body of evidence that Musselman left Fayetteville because he wasn't appreciated. Now they are hiring another head coach who leaves Kentucky for the same reason. One man's garbage, as they say.

Maybe the Arky guys will weigh in
My perception of Muss was always that he likely grated on people, was prone to emotional swings, had a man child disposition - true or not now that you're on the other side of him?

Herman, since you and Rohan have stayed for weeks at my fishing haven in the Ozarks, it does my heart good to see you troll Ole Miss and Auburn and some of the others on this thread.

Remember that time Rohan pulled that 7 pound bass out of that little pond? IT DEFIED SCIENCE!

And that bass tasted so good, and that moonshine.

Cal is doing the same thing that everyone on the carousel in front of him also did (Enfield, Musselman) and that is getting out of town for a fresh start before they come with pitchforks and torches.
The comparison between his UK deal and his Arkansas deal is irrelevant as long as its "close enough." What he gets from Arkansas will be more than what he would get from someone else after being fired, dismissed, resigning, after next year or the year after that.

you don't know the difference between a sociopath and a narcissist?
4% of coaches would be sociopaths, just like 4% of the rest of the population
the girl at Wendy's could be a sociopath
