I’ve been out in my kayak many times in that area. It’s pretty easy to lose track of time, especially if the fish are biting. The trip back in is usually done at a leisurely paddle. It’s easy to end up 4 or 5 miles offshore looking for fish.
I love fishing but my back would say frick that, I hate being out for more than an hour or so in a kayak. I’ve only ever stuck to creeks and ponds though. Would never lose sight of the beach if I was kayaking in the ocean

My guess he was expected back at a certain time and I would assume he took his cell.

Thanks. Didn’t really mean USCe as an insult. I am from Tuscaloosa. I grew up playing ball against Chris and have some mutual friends. Community is pretty shook.

Well that's good news. I bet he feels a bit sheepish now.

Awesome news! Any details? Was he lost or in any distress or just lost track of time?

Easier to do than you’d think. I rented a kayak for my niece and nephew one year at seaside and they used it for about ten minutes and then it was just sitting there so I hopped on it without a jacket and ripped out. Paddled and paddled and by the time I turned around to see how far I’d gone the beach was just a thin white line on the horizon. Freaked out a little and paddled back as fast as I could.

Kayaking in the ocean is retarded.... sorry but i said it.
There are so many creatures way bigger than a tiny kayak in the open ocean that are very hungry. Just saw a video the other day on YouTube of a tiger shark slamming into a kayak nearly knocking the guy on it into the water.
Not to mention if a storm comes in out of nowhere. It's just not a smart thing to do....at all.
Hope they find him though. Being stranded in the ocean is no joke.
