SEC Football programs that should be winning but can’t find their mojo

It truly amazes me that Ole Miss and Missouri are playing at an elite level while Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn can’t reclaim their previous level of success. TAMU has spent enough money to buy Miami but has pissed it away so fast. For the life of me I can’t understand why South Carolina hasn’t been able to breakthrough when places like Kentucky have.

Coaching. That's the why. You can put tons of NIL money to work, but if you have Jimbo or Harsin coaching them, it doesnt mean anything.

And Mike Elko could soon make you a prophet.

It really surprises me how far Florida has fallen. They came into that thrown shoe game hunting a national title several years ago and now they’re not even mid tier SEC anymore.
17-24 overall record since and theyre 100% going to have 4 straight losing seasons after next year. Over the last 3 years the only SEC team they have a better conference record than is Vanderbilt.

Arkansas should be on this list. We can’t get out of our way.

Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, A&M and to an extent Tennessee have this problem. Tennessee seems to be pulling in the same direction now though finally

You had Hugh Freeze and Tubberville and couldn't keep them. The Lane Train retiring in Oxford doesn't seem like a healthy bet.

Back in 2012 when Mizzou was joining the SEC, if you'd told me that our football team would win the East twice in the first decade, put together a 10-win team about one-third of the time, and beat Ohio State in an NY6 bowl - but our basketball team would be worst in the conference and go winless, I would've laughed my arse off at you. But here we are, I guess that's why they play the games.

Florida really messed up their last hire. Will Muschamp, Jim Mcelwain and Dan Mullen all managed 10+ win seasons at UF within their first two years.
Napier hasn't even managed a winning season. He was a total flub of a hire.

Florida does not have total institutional commitment to it's football program. Has not since Urban and Jeremy Foley as AD

Even without that, 3 of the 4 coaches that came after Meyer won 10+ games in their first two seasons. Two of them won their division.
Napier hasn't had a winning season.
Even mediocre to poor hires at UF managed to have some level of success. Napier was a horrid hire.

We have a all time winning record against Kentucky. They have never finished a season ranked in the top 10 and we have more than once. How exactly has Kentucky done more than we have?

As others have said - it is coaching. Even bammer had their time in the desert.
But the programs you mentioned are different.
1. Tennessee and Auburn have to directly deal with Alabama. Play them every year and fight for recruits in a 4 hour radius. When Alabama is strong - it impacts these two.
2. Florida is the outlier. They have the most talent rich state and have far less competition. Any coach that is not a moron should win 9 games annually in Gainesville. (Just like LSU). Their only limitation is themselves.

That hire made no sense to me. I know he was (some what) a hot name at the time, but I expected better established coach. Was Florida afraid of a Jimbo type hire to not throw the serious cash out there?
