Bandwagon fixin’ to empty out?

Hate to be a downer, but I really think we are going to see the bandwagon empty out in short order - and a lot of our Frontrunner fans bail out……
Our last three season we went:
13-2 Won the SECC Game, and lost the NC game ONLY due to multiple key injuries;
11-2 but missed the SECC and P_ayoffs;
12-2 Won the SECC Game, and lost in OT to the eventual NC.
Our 36-6 record (0.85714) is #3 in FBS for that 3 year period.
And the board consensus SEEMS to be that those 3 seasons SUCKED, Saban could no longer compete, and the program is in shambles……. SMDH…
Gonna be a lot of “fans” fussin and cussin - AND walking away if DeBoar can “only” win 80-84% of our games….

honestly, Alabama will be better off without many of them.

I’m sure I will fuss and complain every time we lose, but I’ll still be rooting for Bama the same way that I always have.

That's not the board consensus at all. There were some people melting in the game threads, but the general consensus is that Bama might have actually overachieved in 2021 and 2023. 2022 was a disappointment given the way that team was billed, there's no doubt about that.

My take is Alabama will have a better overall coaching staff than 2021-2023 but a worse head coach.

I bitched plenty because I knew the window was closing. I wanted every championship and anything short of it was a disappointment with the GOAT. This is new for everyone, a reset instead of a reboot, so the expectations will be high but different. Roll tide.

Who is bandwagon fan to you?
A woman who loves Bama but will go shopping when we start losing?
Some dude who only roots for winners (Pete Carroll's USC, Patriots, Bama) and gets a new shirt when another team starts winning (Georgia)?
The science nerd from Indiana who came to school at Bama because they were winning in football?

I think this team going forward is going to require a mindset-revamp, at least for me.
For the past 30+ years, our successful head coaches had a defensive background and mindset. When we won, it was primarily because of a suffocating defense and an efficient (sometimes high-performing) offense.
That shifted somewhat later in Saban's tenure, partly because of rule changes that favored the offense, partly because of our outstanding talent on the offensive side of the ball, and partly because our defensive coaching -- for reasons that still aren't completely clear -- tailed off a fair amount.
Now we're going to have a head coach whose background is on the offensive side of the ball. He's improved the offensive output everywhere he's been, and his team recently out-dueled the team coached by the best OC we've had in recent years (Sarkisian). The defensive staff DeBoer has put together looks good, but unproven at this level, and our secondary is a question mark.
I expect DeBoer to consistently have Alabama in the playoff, including this first year -- but only because it expanded to 12 teams. I'm not at all confident we would get in under the previous four-team format.
His success going forward will depend on how well he can recruit, and how well his staff can adjust to the competition of the new-look SEC. I don't expect him to reach the heights Saban did, but I do expect him to have Alabama in the national title hunt regularly.

That's what I want to know.
Because I'll tell ya this. I don't watch a shitty product, no matter who's producing it.
Sportsball of all sorts is supposed to be entertaining. If Alabama football ever becomes shitty to the point where it pisses me off more than it entertains me, I'm turning it off. Now that hasn't happened in a long time but I'm sure as shite not above it.

Why does this even matter?

I was a Bama fan during the CPB through to the CNS Era. I see no reason to give up my Fandom. I proudly cheered on the xCMD, xCMS, xCDF teams. If I can remain a fan through that I won't be buying any other teams shirts.

I think we may have a better coaching staff that aren’t nearly as good at recruiting.
I’m excited about the chances that I can go back to actually enjoying a season of football. Saban raised expectations to an unachievable level and then continued to meet or exceed those expectations. Under his teams it was win it all or it was a failed season. Seasons turned into an in game experience of either bordom or panic.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this coaching staff can develop these players and how far they can go, without being in a blind panic if we fall behind in a game or lose a game or 2 or more.

I reckon people are taking exception to me saying that Nick Saban is a better head coach than Kalen DeBoer. Lmaooooo

Sounds rough that you never got to actually enjoy the ride while Saban was here.

Something I see affecting this and is not "bandwagon" per se, but the transfer portal and NIL will play a role in folks losing interest.
I along with many others have stated, they do not like the way CFB is headed. I can see more and more folks losing interest and not watching or spending money to go to games, etc as the kids demand more and more. They no longer bleed crimson and want nothing more than to play for the Crimson Tide. That can be said for any big time program around the country.
To me, the state of college football seems similar to where NASCAR was after Dale Earnhardt's death. NASCAR kept making changes and tried to shed it's redneck image. They ostracized the bulk of their fan base and is a shell of what it once was.

Honestly I disagree on that a lot of our hires have strong recruiting ties and a good portion have great recruiting ties in the south. I'm more curious on how much are we gonna target prospects in the north.
