All this talk about court storming, if you watch the end of the LSU UK game

LSU security did a really good job of controlling it and keeping it away from UK team and staff.
Immediately after the game, security surrounded the UK bench area and brought a rope to block off anyone getting close to UK team.
This allowed a pathway for UK to get off the court and head straight to the visiting lockeroom. LSU puts the visitors bench area with easy access to the lockeroom while avoiding the crowd.
It's really simple, skip handshakes after game and allow team to get off court as quickly as possible while home team security is in place to protect the visiting team.
The only thing I saw that looked remotely out of place was one student slowly walking by UK bench area and waving bye with security in place to prevent him from getting too close. That's it.

I remember seeing that and thinking that was handled very well by LSU's arena staff. They were really quick to get that separation.

I didn't see that specifically, but my general thought about fans on the court getting in a player's face to taunt is that I'd be fine with people looking the other way if the player accidentally ran them the frick over. It's one thing to go celebrate with your players/fans, another thing to run up to a player after an emotional loss and taunt them. (Not saying that is what the LSU fan did here and obviously keeping some distance was well done by LSU)

I haven't seen the tape but it sounds like it was handled very well.
Most security teams will either stand there or try to catch a few people as they jump onto the field/run on court to try and make an example.
If there's a field-storming, there's no stopping it and no sense trying to bring anyone in. The chief objective should be protecting the visitors and getting them off the field/court. Well done, LSU.

In the first ten years or more of Bud Walton, the ushers would line the court near the end of a big win. These ushers wore yellow vests and looked like Wal-Mart greeters. So, to rush the court, you would have to mow down your grandparents.
They don't offer any impediment these days, and plowing through old people would just add to fun for today's kids.

I didn't see it but sounds like a solid plan LSU had for the rush and good for them. A little different for football. I think it was tom Osborne who addressed this back in the 90's and said it best. You instruct your players to leave the field but if you feel threatened in any way then do what you have to do. Don't do anything unless you are provoked but if you are and your personal space is encroached on then do what you have to do to protect yourself. A few weeks later was when a drunk, I believe, Arizona St student ran at one of Nebraska's wideouts and he got flattened with one punch. I would use the same approach if I were coaching. If you want to celebrate, fine, but if you get in my face or come at me you will suffer whatever consequences happen.

In the last two years, LSU has been fined $600,000 for fans running onto the court or field.

If storming the basketball court continues, someone--whether a player or fan-- will be trampled and injured. I don't know the solution, but it should be banned. Also eliminating the traditional handshakes after the game, as someone has suggested, would be yet another surrender to poor sportsmanship, which is already on thin ice.

There are boundaries.
Do not go on court or field until the visiting team has cleared out.

Heard a good resolution on the radio that could fix this: home team automatically forfeits if the team rushes the court and there's an incident between the opposing teams' players/coaches/personnel.
Or set up barriers and allow 20 seconds to let the opposing team leave and then storm the court.
Personally I have no problem with it, but anything can happen in a mob of people, especially crazy college kids.

That has already happened multiple times in football and basketball. It can be stopped. Either by arresting fans or forfeiting the game. Or both. It is obvious fining the schools isn’t going to stop it.
