Been seeing some players have opted in, and will get $600 and a free copy of the game. Now, I’m reading, some teams might not opt in (reject the initial offer) to drive up the offer.

What would you guys do? I see the logic on both sides. One, it’s cool and and an “honor” and everyone should just be grateful. Hate that logic to be honest. And on the other hand, I can see the logic of a whole team opting out, let’s say Ohio State (to not use an SEC example), and opt in if the offer jumps to $2k per player. Apparently, some schools are discussing that route.

Either way, EAsports will easily make stupid money now that games sell stuff on the games (skins, upgrades, etc.). I think EAsports made $1.8 billion from just Fifa 2023.

Would you guys opt in for $600, or wait and see if y’all were star players? It will be interesting to see what players and schools do, especially big names.

Might sound dumb, but a school opting out of this game could negatively impact recruiting.

Bold, bold decision over what amounts to a couple hundred bucks a month or less.

I hope a bunch of teams opt out. It is a shite show now. And I am a bigger is better kind of guy.

We thought it would be CTE that killed college football. But we were wrong about what killed it.

I can only speak for myself, but as an avid gamer back in the day..(still am when I have time, so not often) if I were a CFB player it would be an honor to have my name, number and stats (arbitrary or otherwise) forever immortalized in a game. Maybe I'm still looking at it through the lens of a pre-NIL world where CFB is still pretending to be an amateur sport, but money comes and goes wether it's $600, $6k or much more than that..but I'd always have copies of the game to pull out for my kids or grandkids...show them grandpa was a badass!

Of course with pro players it's different, but they also aren't getting free room and board and a small stipend for other needs from their university...and also most have kids and family to take care of so getting money for their likeness in a game is essential.

I have a bad feeling this will be a one-and-done game.

It'll likely be built on the Madden game engine (which is awful).

With a piss poor game engine and EA sports having to pay players and deal with threats of opting out for entire schools, I don't see this sticking.

They have no leverage, the game will be made whether they're in it or not. If I'm a player, I'd much rather be in it than not.

CFB is more about the programs than individual players.

EA has already stated that all FBS teams have signed on. I would guess that would be a multiyear media deal.

No school wants to be left out here. Future recruits will grow up playing this.

Weird time to post this when they literally announced today that all teams will be in it.

The game will never come out if they start individually negotiating. Give an offer and if a team wants to hold things up then move on and leave them out: Let the teams that want to be bitches deal with pissed off fans until the next release…

The particular player will only be in the game for a few seasons then they "graduate." In Madden the players can last for years. $600 is fair. If they don't sign, the game will go on without them.

It’s free money! No work to do. Just say yes and you get $600. Don’t even have to pose for pictures.

Easy call.

$600 is a fair amount, IMO, and EA is not going to go up much from there.

134 teams x 120 players per team x $600 = $9.6 million.

Soccer is a worldwide sport with the game having global appeal. FIFA 2023 sold 10 million+ copies.

College Football is an American only sport and even more regional than NFL football. NCAA 2014 sold a little over a million copies.

It would be difficult to make a game if a significant portion of the game's budget had to go towards paying 16,000 players.

It will be weird to see a mishmash of real faces (opt ins) and generic ones (opt outs) in the game.

I'm assuming they'll still allow user-created mods which includes roster updates like they did with the last few NCAA's.

So your NIL will be in that game regardless.....so passing up the $600 would be incredibly stupid. EA holds all of the cards as long as they allow modded rosters.

I would 100% opt in. Just to be able to say youre in a video game would be really cool. Granted, without the hard copy they can shut the servers down, so it isnt as cool as it used to be.

but you know, if they do tie in the transfer portal, and keeping promises to recruits, this game has potential to be really fun and frustrating. They can do so many things outside of gameplan that would make it worth playing for a long time. Obviously game play is important, but I really want the depth to the game, and college football in general.

Literally no school is doing that. All FBS schools have been confirmed for the game.
