Chris Stewart was ready to find a job elsewhere and Eli Gold can't take a hint. It needed to be done.

No surprise Barners are celebrating a guy's recovery from cancer leaving him unable to perform his job up to the high standard he'd set.

No surprise. It was time to turn the page with the regime change. Glad he's doing well health wise. 35 years was a good ride.

I love Eli, and cancer sucks. His broadcasts this past season were tough to listen to. He only called home games and the IB, and his fastball was clearly gone.
Play by play man for the radio broadcast isn’t like Corso putting on a mascot head or apparently like the president being able to board Air Force One. You need to be able to do it well every time.

The good news for Eli is he wasn’t shoved up a flight of stairs or shot like a young minority mother. Just kicked to the curb like trash (which ironically puts him right with the fan base he used to serve)

Damn that's crazy, State fan here, but growing up in Alabama, my entire childhood is filled with memories of listening to Eli on my radio headset on Saturdays sitting in a tree stand.

They chose not to renew his contract, and its in everyone's best interest
Dude lost his edge and it's obvious

Dude called 4th and 31 like it was a 3-yard gain in the 2nd quarter. It was time

Did you hear Eli call any games this year? I doubt it. It was at times sad to listen to.

Sorry to hear this. He was the best in the business before he got sick.

I heard he left for Seattle.

Those inbred cocksuckers in Tuscaloosa are dirty about everything they do. It's historically been the filthiest program in NCAA history. Why should a move like this surprise you?
Loyal to Bammer for 35 years, just battled cancer, and they pull a dirty, disloyal stunt like this.

Fake news.
He's actually staying, but Saban is going to be 'co-announcer'.
