Longtime Alabama football radio voice Eli Gold, who has served Crimson Tide fans as a play-by-play announcer for 35 years, will not return to the Crimson Tide Sports Network in fall of 2024, according to sources with knowledge of the situation not affiliated with the university.
Chris Stewart, CTSN's play-by-play voice for Alabama basketball, is likely to take over the role. He would likely stay in his role as men's basketball announcer, too.

I commend Eli on an incredible tenure as the Voice of the Crimson Tide!

Dude is awesome. Legend even coming from a Tiger man. Hopefully he will have a healthy retirement.

He also called hockey games on fox sports. In his prime, no one was better

Per his tweet he is not retiring.

Agreed. That distinct voice will forever be tied to a lot of incredible college football. Several plays that ripped out my heart. 2012 and 2014 come to mind.

Damn. Even Eli doesn't want to be associated with DeBoer.

Oh wow! Sad to hear. Loved listening to him when I was younger.

Apparently Alabama chose not to renew Eli’s contract. I hate to hear that, but it’s not a lie to say that he had lost a step or two as a broadcaster, too.

That's really fricked up to just cut him loose after all that time.

Yeah, I am sure you are saddened, LOL. Go troll another thread.

I hate that it went down this way but when he came back last year he would only do home games which might have been an issue.

I noticed that today when they announced Chris Stewart for a radio spot, they called him “The voice of the crimson tide”

He got Runn Oft. Kinda strange after that many years.

I love Eli to death. I understand why it is time to move on, but damn, talk about the end of an era.
In my college football heaven, Bama games will forever be called by Eli Gold and Kenny Stabler.

Gold was a great play-by-play guy. He's leaving some mighty big shoes to fill.

Maybe he didn’t want to be thought of like some do Vern.
I’ll miss him but sometimes you just have to say “Enough “ .

Sadly, Eli had lost a lot due to his illness and it was very noticeable when he broadcast the home games last season.
Alabama needs a full-time announcer that's on point every game. Like I posted in Scoper's shitty thread, I grew up with Eli on the air and appreciate everything he brought to Alabama.
Chris Stewart will do an excellent job.
