Longtime Alabama football radio voice Eli Gold, who has served Crimson Tide fans as a play-by-play announcer for 35 years, will not return to the Crimson Tide Sports Network in fall of 2024, according to sources with knowledge of the situation not affiliated with the university.

Chris Stewart, CTSN's play-by-play voice for Alabama basketball, is likely to take over the role. He would likely stay in his role as men's basketball announcer, too.

Tuscaloosa News

I commend Eli on an incredible tenure as the Voice of the Crimson Tide!

Damn. Even Eli doesn't want to be associated with DeBoer.

Oh wow! Sad to hear. Loved listening to him when I was younger.

Apparently Alabama chose not to renew Eli’s contract. I hate to hear that, but it’s not a lie to say that he had lost a step or two as a broadcaster, too.

I noticed that today when they announced Chris Stewart for a radio spot, they called him “The voice of the crimson tide”

I love Eli to death. I understand why it is time to move on, but damn, talk about the end of an era.

In my college football heaven, Bama games will forever be called by Eli Gold and Kenny Stabler.

Gold was a great play-by-play guy. He's leaving some mighty big shoes to fill.

It's obvious, Eli doesn't want to go. And he's feeling good and says he is healthy again. If we had someone who even came close to his style and distinctive voice quality maybe I'm in. But this is worse than replacing John Forney with Paul Kennedy. Man, that was brutal growing up. We went from the world's greatest storyteller to some guy who sounded like he was better suited for high school football. And radio was so much more important back then.

If not for Wimp Sanderson recommending Eli Gold we could have been in for a long losing streak. BAMA should be ashamed.

Eli was great in his prime but it was sometimes hard to listen to him last year. The yardage wasn't correct, the qtr would be wrong. He wasn't the same. Not to mention he only did home games and he struggled mightily just to get to and from the stadium.
Same thing happened with John Forney. Bama held on as long as they could but there comes a time when you have to move on. Many great calls, from both of them, that will live on forever.

Remember last year when Bama fans said reducing his game calling duties was health related and got angry with anyone saying they were forcing him out?

End of an era, but it's time. Thanks for the good times, Eli.

This whole saga is interesting. I guess I can see Eli's and Alabama's point of view. I know he's disappointed and hurt, but say what you want aboult Alabama, they have bent over backwards for him forever. Remember, when he took over for John Forney in football ,he did basketball, too. But basketball was cutting in to his lucrative NASCAR assignments. Kinda surprised he's being so vocal about his ouster.

With that said, I'd like to see who these offers for Chris Stewart doing their games are coming from which supposedly led Ala to want to make him permanent football guy, too. Nice guy, but mediocre at beast pbp.
