If Bama wants to pay us a $1M buyout and make Moore the highest paid OC in the country like LSU did with Baker, have at it. He has 1 good year under his belt and like Baker, he benefitted enormously from Mizzou’s talent

Yes, I’m sure the lack of talent at Bama would be surprising to him.

Bro, a $1M buyout is pennies to SEC programs. You have to try and be bad at marketing or selling tickets or whatever to not have that change in your pocket.

Knowing that Coach Saban is in his seventies and retirement would inevitably be on the near horizon, Bama should have had a coach in waiting. All of the current chaos could have then been avoided.

Coaches in waiting as a position was killed when the NCAA made them abide by head coaching recruiting restrictions.

It isn't a thing anymore.

Thanks for the correction. I actually meant in the sense that Michigan knew what it wanted to do in naming Sherrone Moore quickly after Harbaugh's departure or Ryan Day at Ohio State following Urban Meyer. Granted, no assistant coach on the Alabama staff was qualified to be head coach, but the AD should have been better prepared and being ready with a short list of elite coaches to target. I cannot believe that Kalen DeBoer would have been on such a list. His success was based at Sioux Falls, Fresno State, and only wo years at Washington. Ideally, Alabama should have done much more to keep Sarkasian and have him ready to step in when Saban left. Then it would have been a smooth transition rather than the loss of key players and recruiting jeopardized.

Please name available coaches that could have been hired with a better resume than DeBoer.

Moore had been Michigan’s OC for 3 seasons. When was the last time Alabama could keep coordinator for 3 seasons that was worth a damn. If they were halfway decent they were gone in 2 years if not sooner. Plus I doubt Saban knew 2 years ago he was going to retire now. At most he knew he was retiring when this last season was coming up.

I don't, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's not some guy named Kirby Moore. Perhaps you've heard of him?

So, if it were LSU, who would you have wanted out of what was out there?

Sark? ( He was my first choice)
Lanning?
DeBoer?
Kiffin?
