Why is it important to Bama fans that Lanning wasn't offered the job? But we know he was

You got the guy who obviously wanted the job.

I think a feeler may have been put out but he was never offered the job. Byrne wasnt gonna pay some stupid high buyout.

He gets more money than what his contract states, so likely would have taken a pay cut himself.
I know we all talk trash here, but my honest opinion is Bama got the second best guy on the possibility list if you include Lanning.
Prefer DeBoer to Sark, Kiffin, Dabo or Norvell. KD may have the lowest floor among those in terms of feeling comfortable they won't crash and burn, but he also has the highest ceiling. Lanning has a higher ceiling and you know he can recruit. That's why I would have preferred him.
While I've heard some say they had to check the tires on Kirby, Kirby made no sense. He's got just as talented of a roster, maybe more. He built it himself. He's doing it for the university he loves most. He and the Prez and AD couldn't be tighter in terms of vision for the program.
I think DeBoer will do well. The thing I laugh at is talking about the last three years of Bama football as if it's terrible and that this breath of fresh air was needed to give life back to the program.
That's an insult to Saban, but also a huge weight put on DeBoer's shoulders. Again, those aren't just some random fans saying that and everybody else telling them they are stupid. Some of the most thumbs upped posts on Bama Rant and Tidefans.

Lanning was never offered. It was Sexton working his magic. $30 Million buyout was never an option during NIL era. Byrne flew to Seattle Wednesday night after Saban retired. DeBoer was offered Thursday morning.

We offered the guy that is 3-0 verses Lanning. 2-0 verses Sark and 2-0 verses Lincoln Riley.

Don't know why people give a shite about stuff like this.
Lanning is the better recruiter, DeBoer is the better coach. Despite recruiting much better and having that Nike money, Lanning is 0-3 against DeBoer.
Pretty sure the order they are called doesn't determine how good they are.

If Lanning was never offered because you knew you couldn't pay him, fair. Alabama, from what I've heard is closer to middle of the pack in NIL in the SEC than to the top three or four schools.
If Lanning was never offered because you didn't want him, you're stupid. What Lanning has done by year two in his head coaching career was more impressive than anyone else on your list of possible hires.

Disagree completely... Lanning has done well and is a good coach and may prove to be the better coach. Right now Deboer looks like the best bet. We won't know for several years. I am happy with our choice and Deboer obviously wanted the job, which is the most important criteria in any job search.
What we do know is this, NIL has completely changed the landscape of college football. Going to be much tougher for any team to be dominant moving forward.

Lanning is a good coach and I would have been ok with him but why is it stupid to go after the guy he couldn't beat and who made it to the natty while Lanning watched the playoffs on tv? Just because he came from Georgia doesn't mean Lanning is better than Deboer.

Definitely never let the media, or anyone else, know your top candidate.
The candidates side will probably leak it to get a counter-offer, but once the public knows everything turns to shite.

Nobody truly knows who was or wasn't offered the job. Its all pure speculation. I lean towards DeBoer being the only guy offered because of how quick the hire happened. DeBoer has also beaten Lanning all three times they faced off, with lesser talent too.
