Who decides how collective funds are allocated?

I assume big boosters have some say in their contributions, but who decides the use of the small donors to the collectives?
Since the collective isn’t supposed to be school funds, I don’t think the coaches are supposed to be directing use of the money.
The only two guys listed on the Yea Alabama website are a sales guy and Aaron Suttles who used to host a radio show on Tide 100.9 (maybe he still does).

He doesn’t and I miss his show. His shows were always good and thought provoking rather than just hearing a bunch of guys who don’t know any more than I do talk about what they’d do to fix said problem

Good question. Seems like Downs would be worth funding.

I thought John Parker Wilson left the booth to do something with NIL and collective. Whatever position he took he said was because NS asked him to do it and he said he could not tell NS no

I looked at who’s managing Yea Alabama and it was a little disappointing. You’d think the biggest brand in college sports would have some people with national experience in fundraising and sports marketing. It’s just some Tuscaloosa guys.

Yea Alabama is more like a front man for the collective. It's where your average everyday joe can go donate their $20 a month and get some exclusive content from Aaron Suttles. The real movers and shakers in the NIL world aren't going through Yea Alabama.

Yeah, $20 a month from 6,000 subscribers isn’t going to put a dent in the problem. That maybe covers the monthly overhead for the organization.
And the part that makes me hesitant to give is that I want my dollars going to football, not gymnastics or tennis.

That’s over $1.4M. That’s a big amount, but we don’t know who is getting what.
Their site claims 100% of the fees go to the athletes, so I don’t think it’s going to overhead. They shouldn’t have much if any overhead anyways. It’s just a website and Shopify store.
I’m also not of the belief our NIL is as far behind as people are claiming. I don’t think our basketball program could be recruiting as well as it has been if we didn’t have significant NIL support.

Or even if it’s all going to football, how is it allocated amongst players on the team? Does Milroe get a lot as the QB? From a marketing perspective that would make sense, but from a competitive one, I doubt he’s one of the guys you have to fight off a lot of premier teams to keep.

Is it though? Especially when it is in monthly installments. To put things in perspective, Bond just got $750K from Texas.
JPW and Suttles are working for Yea Alabama and I presume they aren’t working for free.

Hell my damn day to day living prevents me from doing it and I make pretty good money. Fact is average college fan should not be worried about paying a bunch of college kids who were getting free room, meals, nutritionist, tuition and an opportunity to turn professional in sports. I have more important things in my life to concern myself with than giving my money to kids other than mine who are all just about at college age.

Exactly. It’s one thing to give for facilities, access to tickets, etc. It’s another to chip in to make sure a kid has rims on his new on his new ride or that his handler gets a cut.
It would be akin to the PGA Tour asking for us to sign up to give money to make sure guys don’t go to LIV.
This sport really is broken.

I think those numbers are just hearsay, so I take it all with a grain of salt. But if we assume $750K is correct $1.44M is about twice that, and Bond was a top 5 guy in the portal per 247.
If a bunch of working class fans can contribute enough to fund the equivalent of 2 top 5 portal players, that’s definitely “making a dent.”

It says on the website that the staff is paid from separate funds.

Josh Pate had a good tweet on it yesterday.
GTFO me sending my money to "buy players" while the AD/University is puling in $200+ mil a year.
I will watch, buy merch and tickets if we go 3-9 or 15-0. I have been doing it since 1997. No way will I ever give to a collective.

A decade from now in CFB's revenue sharing era imagine looking back knowing folks working 9-5 jobs were asked to buy players

Pretty sure when Nick was here, and I doubt that has changed based on the mass exodus.
The NIL collective splits the proceeds evenly among all the players on the team as to not create discourse.
The office also helps players get deals outside of the school, but it is not paid directly by the collective.
Probably explains the mass exodus after Nick retired. He was keeping them together, most of the big name guys were taking less money to stay.

It nominally goes to all sports, but obviously football dwarfs all others in terms of both expense and revenue. I'm sure the gymnastics and tennis players would be making a pittance, so much so that many are predicting the current landscape of NIL and college athletics in general will mean the end of those sports.
I don't know why you would be so opposed to supporting those sports anyway. Both have had championships. The basketball team are the perennial losers and that's a much bigger risk to siphon off funds.

That’s absolutely not a big amount these days in the NIL world.

Depleting the entire annual bank account of the collective on two players isn’t “making a dent.”

I don't know how ADs can do it but they probably need to figure out how to legally take budget surplus and funnel it into the collective. The general fund at UA is accustom to receiving that extra bit of sugar but I don't think it is viable anymore if they can do such a transfer. The marketing/recruiting beast of football is too important to the bottom line.
