A huge key is Sacramento State transfer Wehiwa Aloy, a physical player with exciting power — but he committed 17 errors en route to a .928 fielding percentage last year

As much pride as Dave takes with his infield I doubt he’ll settle for sub standard play. But he’ll find a role somewhere for a hitter I’d imagine.

Maybe he'll find the DH spot
Posted on 1/20/24 at 6:51 pm to Drewbie
Yea. Hope he improves. The last two years combined between Bolton and Battles, there were 16 errors between them in 2 seasons. 8 & 8.

Has me remembering Casey Martin, especially his last year
Posted on 1/20/24 at 7:10 pm to BallHawg10
You got me curious enough to look it up.
Casey Martin committed 43 errors as a Razorback for a .913 career fielding percentage. 23 in his sophomore year alone.
I knew it was bad, but wow. He had already committed 5 errors in 15 games when Covid shut down the 2020 season.

Lest we not forget that he couldn't hit a breaking ball to save his arse.

They're saying Aloy has improved leaps and bounds, since getting on campus.

I watched a replay of the Charlie Welch home run against Nebraska. Made the hair on the back of my neck stick out. Not just the homer but the crowd reaction as well.
We footed the bill for my grandson to attend a football, basketball and baseball game this last year and the baseball experience was the best by far for him.
The fans there were great.

DVH interview with media going on at the moment:
On bullpen: good mix of LHP and RHP. Having lefties will be a plus. On Gage Wood: tremendous shape, you'll see a difference. Better than he's ever been.
Left on left matchup: Stone Hewlett m, that's what he does is gets lefties out. Mentioned Freshmen Colin Fisher, Hunter Dietz. Frank is back better than ever. Faherty upper 9s all the time. Cape Cod did big things for him. And the list goes on.
On Hunter Dietz: not throwing to hitters yet. Took care of a problem that he brought with him. Coaching staff knew of issue when he arrived.
Position battles: having Stovall back. "He's been amazing". He and Aloy in the middle, wants them to mesh before opening day. Wagner and McLaughlin barking at 1st. Holt at 3rd. Sprague Lott may be best defender. Utility guy.
Outfield: LF still up for grabs. Jayson Jones working 80 percent in LF. “If bat gets going it will help us.” Jones, Edmondson and Lovich battling out for LF. Wilmsmeyer best defender in CF.
Catching position: Rowland returning starter. Hudson white best hitter in the fall, barreled up balls. Will be in the lineup. Ryder Helfrick “most talented catcher we’ve had in here, and we had James McCants”. More bat potential this year.
First scrimmage: Friday at 2:00 first pitch. Saturday will be an off day. Sunday at Noon. Scrimmage again on Monday.
Koty Frank: 100 percent. Works fast, not scared. Pitched to hitters in the indoor and sliced hitters up. Will get a lot of innings for us.
On Jayson Jones: just play baseball and enjoy it. Block out the outside noise and not worry about what anyone else says.
“Hagen Smith just wants to win as a team”. He’s been more vocal this year, knows it’s his time.
On leadoff position: Peyton Stovall is a good candidate. Holt would be a good energy guys. On Diggs: wants him anywhere from 2-5 in the order. Only 3 lefty bats so don’t want to stack them.

That exact statement got me banned on Hogville during that CWS.
Was a member on there since early 2000's.
No warning. PERMABAN

As someone who is one step removed from Hagen's family, I'll be sure to let him know this is unacceptable.
