There needs to be penalties to prevent kids jumping because they were bought and paid for.

Also, no nil deals until after your first year.

I’m all for kids benefiting from there name and image but this system is broken.

Or they can transfer at will but have no NIL deal or to have NIL you have to sign a contract

Maybe school-related NIL collective payouts, but no one could prevent them from individual contracts. Those private businesses providing "sponsorship" indirectly to get players to specific locations could be more innovative about the structure and details of their contracts with the player as an individual.

Does anybody really know how these deals work? Is the income reported and taxed? Cash payouts? I would really like to know.

For instance, after Bond's catch, somebody shelled out a lot of money for tee shirts and other stuff. Now that he is gone, all that sunk cost is worthless. Somebody got left holding the bag big time. Got to believe a player is going to get knee capped over one of these deals eventually. It's crazy.

This genie ain’t ever going to go back in the bottle no matter how many fans demand it on message boards, because the courts are 100% on the players’ side here. It is what it is. We adapt or die. It’s that simple.

We are pretty much in agreement that Bond got a deal in place and tried to leverage staying for more $$ from Alabama?

If so, why in the world would Saban stay for that kind of shite year in and year out?

I'd be interested in seeing how these NIL deals are really setup.

How many advertisements have you seen featuring a college player? 1? 2? I sure as hell don't see them.

Almost like these types of things are actually falling afoul of federal tax laws. I'm just waiting for the day when someone points out that 90% of NIL deals never actually use the "N", the "I", or the "L".

NIL isn't really the problem - it's the portal that needs to be fixed. A little over a month ago, Isiah Bond had a catch worthy of a Daniel Moore painting & today he's riding around in a Lamborghini in Austin. It's absurd.

There are easy fixes like changing the time of year the portal opens & scaling back the transfers to one transfer after your sophmore year.

Ffs we've had the portal for five years - do the guys at the NCAA actually think this is working well?

Seems categorically unfair that the transfer portal is basically a one way street when a coach leaves a program. Everyone can poach our roster but we can only go after Washington & Arizona players? At the very least, the portal should be delayed until a week after an HC is announced so ADs aren’t forced to rush the hire and that the new HC at least gets a shot at talking with the player before every other school has gotten in his ear.

What if we were going to hire DeMeco but had to wait until the Texans were eliminated? Our roster would be depleted.

I understand that NIL is tough to police. Would be great to have some sort of NCAA Clearinghouse for NIL deals but that probably won’t ever happen. They can still put guard rails on the portal though. Would be great to return to making players sit if they transfer within their conference. Would also be great if they could hammer someone for tampering because that is clearly a rampant problem.

Saw this elsewhere but a good way to make this fair would be that any team that takes a coaching change portal player should have the portal open up for their team…or at least the position group of the kid coming in. Why is it fair to Texas receivers to have to make their decision before knowing whether Sark is bringing someone in to start over them?

There’s got to be a way to curb turning a team into a Goldan Coral buffet.

Wouldn’t stop it. Getting around that wouldn’t be hard at all. Just need a one year no participation restriction on any transfer.

That alone would kill the multiple transfers we are seeing

I think if you're going to open the portal for specific teams for coaching changes, then you should open the portal for specific teams for roster changes (additions) as well.

In other words...yes, Sarkisian, you can poach Bama players for 30 days because of Saban's retirement, but the second you add one to your roster, the portal opens for your team too.

The real thing is that the players arent benefitting from their name and image, they are benefitting from the brand of the program. Nobody would give a flying flip about these kids id they didnt wear those colors.

Once they transfer, they should be forced to pay for the rights of anything they profited from using the school brand.

Fixing NIL and transfers is going to take ending amateurism, classifying the student-athletes as employees of the school or associated athletic 503, giving the student-athletes employees a union, and the revenue schools subordinating themselves to some sort of commissioner's office.
